26 July 1999 marked as Vijay Diwas. It is a glorious day especially for the Military History of Indian Armed Forces. It is a rare feat that under tremendous international & domestic pressure that the armed forces could steal the thunder away from the adversary. It appears a very strange, naive political posturing that we will not cross the LOC while our boys were getting rogered. All this for another day(lets keep politics at bay today) and bask in the glory of those men who gave their all so that we Indians today can breathe with pride that Kargil is still part of our country.
If one has visited or seen the pictures of the kargil heights then one would fathom the difficulty of the task that was assigned to Indian Army. Young officers were commissioned in hurry to join the respective fighting units. This IMA course saw majority of young officers getting glory in battlefield. The victory of Kargil is due to these young blood who just had one belief that 'they will prove thier blood" & they did. Not only officers but the war witnessed amazing acts of valour by all rank & file. Indian Air Force was not behind as they performed fantastic in terms of the LOC dikat that was issued.
I have been reading posts about Kargil Vijay Diwas from morning and every post makes my chest fill with pride because I feel those emotions and am blessed that I was part of the unit that was stationed in that region. Thus saw those chilly heights myself and thereafter I could simply be humbled at the feat achieved by Indian Army. You need to see it to believe because in mountain warfare if you are having defensive positions on mountain top then you just need to throw stones to defeat your enemy. Here there were no stones but full Pakistani Army in act. I feel sad for my adversary too as they could not even come out and claim their own fallen comrades bodies. At the same time, they carried out some unthinkable , unhumane & unsoldierly like torture on our soldiers.
One very important chapter of Kargil War is personally inspiring to me. I knew all about Kargil War but the day i read 'The Last Letter' of Capt Vijayant Thapar, VrC(Posthumous)-Something changed in inside of me. I was in Officer Training Academy as a cadet and one day in Cadet's mess , i read this letter in the 'Kargil Corner'. Tears welled up from my eyes. I continued knowing more about Vijayant Sir, the operation & his martyrdom. The more i read, it inspired me to be more dedicated in the academy. Be diligent & be serious about my job. Capt Vijayant Thapar, VrC(Posthumous) is my role model. I love him and am humbled at what he did. He was 22 year old and he went on to inspire his men overran a well entrenched enemy position at 3 pimple.
I cry even today when i read his last letter. He 'lived like kingsize' & I wish that youngsters will read about him
Today on ocassion of #vijaydiwas #kargil I wish all ranks, families of #indianarmy #adgpi #indianairforce . I commend Government Of India also on this day for having the right political will.
In the last I appeal to the political administration of India, Chiefs of Indian Armed Forcesto take care of its Indian Defence Forces and leaves no stone unturned in their welfare especially the honour of their families whether they are serving or retired. Operate with courage & may the glory be yours Always and foreever ....JAI HIND
