I have vowed to get out every day this summer and explore the National Park in my backyard. From my house, I can ride my bike to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSRR). The Bike Aboard pass ($35) allows me to board all summer long - ride portions of the trail- and then head back to Cleveland before dinner time.
The train is a marvelous way to meet people and share life experiences. And, you will find comfort at every stop, because the National Park Service has planned excursions with great vistas and interpretative connections along the way.
Your hardest decision (if you don't live here) will be how to get to the park and where to stay! Let me recommend the Courtyard Marriott at the southern terminus of the CVSRR in Akron. Your own home away from home allows you to explore Akron, the National Park, Stan Hywett Hall, the Akron Zoo, Akron Art Museum, and more.
If only Cleveland offered a similar hospitality experience connecting at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to all the destinations that appeal to our new tourism market and to weekend adventurers, like me.

7 年Riders I met on the train this Sun 7/2 - New Jersey blended family staying in Marblehead - riding their bikes and traveling to Akron (daughter had NPS Junior Ranger badge), two female friends from around Peninsula doing their morning exercise ride and then bike-aboard back from Rockside, retired couple from Gibonsburg, OH - and CWRU master's degree student renting a house in Garfield Heights. Also spotted on the train Marty Cader with a group of his friends and David Abbott w/his wife and another couple.
