Live to 100: Secrets of The Bluezones, The Elements of Eloquence, and More

Hello friend,

Welcome to your weekly dose of Thoughts Over Coffee where I share cool things I've stumbled upon, insights I'm pondering, the books I'm currently reading, and the documentaries I'm enjoying.

Quote I'm pondering

Give yourself time each day to read, to write, and to think.

—Joe Duncan

Book I'm currently reading

The Elements of Eloquence by Mark Forsyth a witty and insightful look at the art of rhetoric. He breaks down timeless techniques used by the greats from antithesis to Asyndeton-showing how these elements shape the way we communicate.

It's an entertaining and insightful journey into the nuances of language—a treasure trove of wisdom for anyone fascinated by power of words.

As I've been reading it, here are a few of the elements Mark explains that I've been enjoying discovering:

  • Chiasmus: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

—John F. Kennedy

  • Asyndeton: " I came, I saw, I conquered".

—Julius Caesar's

  • Antithesis: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".

—Dickens

  • Anaphora: "I have a dream..."

—Martin Luther King Jr.

Each of these elements has shown me how intricate and purposeful language can be.

I am really enjoying it , and I believe you will too.

Documentary i'm watching

Live to 100: The secret of the blue seas—This captivating Netflix docuseries has earned a rare 100 % rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it's easy to see why. Best selling author Dan Buettner, takes us on a journey to the world's Blue Zones — Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia ,Italy; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California. These regions are home to some of the highest rates of centenarians (people who have reached age of 100 years or older).

Dan Buettner uncovers habits tied to longevity, like diet, community, and purpose.

It was a delight to watch, and I think you’ll enjoy it just as much.

Curiousity of the week

Did you know that trees and plants communicate? Through underground networks of fungi (often called the "Wood Wide Web"), plants can send signals about environmental changes, such as droughts or insect threats and share nutrients with other plants, especially younger and weaker ones.

Weekend wish

May the peace and joy of the weekend find you.

Until next time,

Big Love
