Packing on a few extra pounds each year as the weather gets colder is a common struggle for most adults. We often chalk it up to holiday treats, more time indoors, and less movement in our days (which all certainly can lead to weight gain).
But the way that our meals change with the season has a HUGE (often unthought of) impact on our weight.?
In the summer, people often eat lighter - salads, grilled meats, fresh fruit and veggies.?
As it gets colder out, our diets shift towards comfort foods with more cheese, bread, and cream - pastas, creamy soups and stews, casseroles.?
Not only are these food choices higher in fat and calories - but they are also all warm foods, compared to the cold options we favor in the summer.?
Why does this matter?
It turns out that warm foods are absorbed faster by our bodies, which means that they may not keep us full for as long and we are more likely to overeat.
Overconsumption = weight gain.?
An easy hack: eat your warm foods first and follow with a salad or cold antipasto as your SECOND course.?
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
