Little Me Is What I Am Meant to Be
By Saima Salman

Little Me Is What I Am Meant to Be

Look here! Look down at little me!

Although I may be overlooked, I’m as wise as one can be.

If someone says I must be famous,

Fulfil someone else's dreams,

Climb the highest mountains or sail the seven seas.

Or tells me I must smile and never frown,

Be wise and never act the clown.

Be perfect, never let another down,

Be forever happy and never shed a tear,

Be bold and never show my fear.

Or that I must never fail,

Then I shall pretend I cannot hear.

I have heard these worthless whispers,

And they do not bother me.

I focus on the things that matter,

And are meaningful, you see.

Look here! Look down at little me!

I am the smallest toe of all. Do you ever notice me?

I do not mind. I need no praise, snuggling in my cozy place

Although a tiny thing, like a princess I'm filled with grace

I am not a superhero, of course you will agree.

I am simply who I am, and who I am meant to be.

So, who cares what people say?

Like fleeting echoes, it’s just whispers in the wind,

Focus on what matters and let your spirit sing.

You are who you are, you see,

And who you are meant to be.

I write this poem as a celebration of self-acceptance and the wisdom in embracing one's true identity, using the metaphor of the little toe to illustrate its significance. Despite being small and often overlooked, the little toe finds contentment in its cozy place, symbolizing how every part of oneself is essential and valuable. I hope my poem finds its way into the readers’ hearts and shares the message of focusing on what truly matters and finding comfort in one's unique qualities, regardless of external judgments.
