Little Life Lessons That Make a BIG Difference - "Choose Excellence"
I am a huge fan of the television show Scandal.? The show was created by Shonda Rhimes, and inspired by Judy A. Smith, a crises management expert and author of the book, Good Self, Bad Self.? Some might even consider Judy a G.O.A.T* in crises communication.
When navigating a crisis, Judy encourages others to “trust your gut” and “follow your instinct.”? Because of her extensive work in crises management, she received the nickname, “The Fixer.”
In 2017, at the New York Matrix Women in Communications (WICI) award ceremony, she had this to say during her acceptance speech:
“We all have the power to be a fixer because there is a lot going on that needs fixing.? We readily accept limitations.? But excellence is a great equalizer.”
Over the course of my own life and career, I have faced various challenges — some big, some small.? Reading and listening to Judy’s words evoked different emotions; most importantly, her words reinforce the idea that we should all continue striving to do and be the best we can. As we kick off a new year, let's choose excellence!
Thank you Judy Smith for keeping the notion of EXCELLENCE top of mind!
