As my Dad was fond of saying...
"When all is said and done - there's a lot more said than done!"
My Dad and Elvis never met ( I think he might have mentioned it if they had) - but for sure they shared wise words.
It's all a bit worrying for me as my stock-in-trade is mostly talking - well, introducing, discussing, presenting, and selling - all of that as 'a talking bundle' I guess.
As I was 12 months ago it's off to Vegas for CES in January! Lucky me!
Sadly Mr Presley won't be in action - but plenty of people shaping up the connected electric world will be taking to the stage - indeed, it's modern moniker could well be the Connected Electric Show!
For sure there'll be folks deep in conversation about consumer electronics by the bucket load - but plenty of action elsewhere too. Abbreviations will abound - no doubt headed up by the commander in chief of it al - IOT!
Action on so much of our monumental challenges - especially in shaping and delivering the circular economy - in unlocking vast potential that's been inadvertently embedded in so many things to date.
Whilst advocating for the EV and all its derivatives has been my passion for some time now (maybe you've noticed that!), I am well aware that they are not a panacea for all our woes.
25% of CO2 from Transport means 75% is not. I also have a fair grasp of the WTW (Well to Wheel) comparisons between current options, and this is a hugely variable story around the world of course.
What really excites me now though is the collective army of change that will be very much in evidence at CES next month - not just conversation but action on much of it too. Not change for changes sake, or for what some might see as nebulous concept - but change that makes things better.
The democratisation of stuff - information, ideas, products and services has only just begun I feel. Far from delivering a Dystopian future - I see all of that as liberating people and sharing much more of what the world has to offer.
Utopia then?
No - not quite.
We will still "suffer the many slings and arrows of outrageous fortune...but by taking arms against a sea of troubles and opposing them"
...we may well end much of what blights us today.
