?? BULLETIN NEWS: ?Thousands of creatives sign AI statement
Thousands of artists and people working in the creative industry have added their signatures to a statement that warns AI companies that their livelihood is threatened by the unlicensed use of their work by AI.?
- The names sit beneath one sentence: “The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.”
- Signatories?include big names from across the creative spectrum, not just music: ABBA’s Bj?rn Ulvaeus, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and composer/conductor Sir John Rutter are joined by authors, actors, publishers, graphic designers, journalists,… in fact, anyone who feels that their creative work is in danger.
- Joining them are?signatory organisations: all the major labels, plus many publishers, and industry bodies have also added their names.?
- Behind the letter is a familiar name –?Ed Newton-Rex, former head of audio at Stability AI who left the company to set up Fairly Trained.?He told?the Guardian?that people who make a living from creative work are “very worried.”
- The number of signatories has more doubled since we first covered the story, and now stands at more than 30,000.

Our daily Bulletin newsletter is loved by subscribers for its instant industry analysis - but secretly, the part they like most is the ‘A Little Something Extra’ section at the bottom of the email. Here's a few of the best recent links:
- We're living through a FRESH SHARK FRENZY! “There is a new species of shark or shark relative (skate, ray, or chimera) discovered?approximately every two weeks.”
- Techno without a computer...?but?with a sewing machine.
- There’s now substantial pushback?against the continued practice of keeping orcas in captivity to perform splashily for crowds. With that in mind, here’s a video of an orca “muddying the water” of this issue somewhat,?with amusing results.?
