Little K2 That Matters Much
In the world of #nutrition, where we are surrounded by various #nutrients, #vitamin #K2 is still a less-known vitamin.?Although we take various nutrients in the form of #supplements, there are still certain nutrients that are often overlooked despite their significant #health benefits. One of these nutrients is vitamin K2. This vitamin with its powerpack properties, plays a major role in many aspects of our health. In today’s world vitamin K2 deficiency is common among people. Therefore, including vitamin K2 in our daily diet is necessary.?In fact, many believe vitamin K2 might be exactly what we are lacking when it comes to diet and several chronic diseases.
Before getting into its importance for our health and #wellness, let’s first understand what is VITAMIN K2.
When we think about vitamins, we often ponder about vitamin K which is a name given to a class of vitamins comprising of vitamin #K1 (#phylloquinone), and vitamin K2 (#menaquinone). The way they work in our bodies is quite different as they both come from completely different #food sources.
Vitamin K1 comes from plant sources. While vitamin K2 is more common in animal products, fermented foods, and dairy. Our body also can produce a small amount of vitamin K2 on its own (certain bacteria that live in the gut help produce vitamin K2), but we cannot simply rely on our body, we need to consume food rich in vitamin K2 such as green leafy vegetables, turnips, broccoli, sprouts, fruits such as blueberries, kiwis and grapes, egg yolk, dairy, animal products, as well as fermented foods. Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble molecule that maintains balance with other fat-soluble vitamins A, D, & E. Vitamin K2 is a longer chain of molecules than vitamin K1. It has a longer half-life, which means it stays in our body longer and works better than vitamin K1, thus helping us achieve all our health goals.
Vitamin K2 is a lesser-known nutrient that plays a crucial role in leveling up our #energy. Vitamin K2 is also responsible for activating proteins that help build and maintain #bone #tissue, and #blood #clotting, as well as prevent #arterial #calcification.
1) Energy - With our current lifestyle, we require a high level of energy to get through our daily chores. Vitamin K2 helps us do just that by using #mitochondria to transport electron chains to increase #ATP levels. Vitamin K2 has been shown to be able to carry electrons which increases our energy to tackle everyday needs
2) Blood Clotting - Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in blood clotting. Vitamin K2 is especially involved in activating proteins involved in blood clotting by modifying their structure. This leads to the formation of a clot that can stop the bleeding.

3) #Hearth Health - Vitamin K2 is an essential nutrient for #cardiovascular health. It reduces the calcification of arteries by activating a protein called Matrix Gla Protein (#MGP) which helps to inhibit the accumulation of #calcium in arteries. Regular intake of Vitamin K2 lowers the risk of developing heart diseases, as it helps to maintain healthy blood vessels, reduces inflammation, and prevents oxidative damage.
4) Bone Health - Vitamin K2 is important for bone health as it helps activate a protein called #osteocalcin. Osteocalcin is responsible for binding calcium in the bone matrix, which helps to maintain bone strength and structure. Optimum intake of Vitamin K2 may increase bone mineral density and reduce the risk of fractures, particularly in postmenopausal women.
Vitamin K2 is gaining a lot of recognition for its many health benefits which are just coming to light. So next time when you are grocery shopping don’t forget to stock up on some of the foods listed above.
This article is a result of my knowledge and experience with vitamin K2. Do let us know what you think about vitamin K2. We would love to know your views about this nutrient.?
