WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM FRIENDS-What hostel life should mean-and what it should not !

It is now 25 years since I left my hostel after my post graduation. Without a doubt, my biggest asset is the corpus of friends I have to this date, from then. What I could not build in 12 years of schooling, I built in my hostel years. A coterie of friends. Without a doubt, hostel life is probably the only opportunity in life to grow, laugh, cry, play with friends. Stockholm syndrome definitely helps bond stronger and we should make the most of it. As we settle into our "professional aims", time to "do nothing" with friends is put in the back burner. Time cannot be inventoried. What's gone is gone
My ode to my dear students, spend this time in cultivating friendships. The value of which is understood only as our circle starts to become smaller and smaller. Unfortunately, we seem to be spending more time with the 5.5" Frankenstein (read cell phones) than on a face to face chat or a game of football with friends.
The math is quite simple
24 hours in a day =hours spent with friends+hours spent on Frankenstein.
The hours of the day are not going to change in the near future, unless the Almighty has other plans. Which only means spending more time with friends would mean spending less time with the "Frankenstein". These 2 events are mutually exclusive. As a rule. You cannot do both at the same time. You would end up doing neither !
Try putting the phone away for 2 hours a day and spending those 2 hours forcing your friends to throw the phone away and spend time with you, no matter how irritating that might be ! Trust me, will be well worth it.
At least, no harm in trying. What have we got to lose?
