Lithium Power Battery Rupture Discs by Cold Forging
About Lithium Power Battery
Lithium power batteries encompass a technical field that involves high-tech technologies such as electrode materials, electrolytes, power battery metal parts, battery pack dynamic management, and more.
Power battery metal parts include battery aluminum shells, cover plates, rupture discs, turn-over sheet parts, negative riveting blocks, positive riveting blocks, negative poles, positive conductive blocks, and other products.
These batteries are widely used in electric vehicles, electric trains, electric bicycles, and golf carts. They can also be used in industries such as new energy vehicles, motorcycles, industrial power systems, electric vehicles, and electric bicycles.
Challenge: Poor Contact between Turn-over Sheet Part and Conductive Sheet Part after Flip Over
The turn-over sheet part usually has a small hump or no hump. The turn-over sheet part without a hump has only one curved surface, making it easy to form point contact and line contact with the conductive sheet after flipping, resulting in poor contact. Even if there is a small hump, the hump surface is small and easy to deflect, leading to a poor connection between the turn-over sheet part and the conductive sheet part after the flip-over. This can cause failures such as burn-through, eliminating the topping, and melting of the turn-over sheet part, leading to battery overcharge protection failure and even more serious safety accidents.
The Solution
Upon receiving the customer's needs, our engineering team immediately set up a power battery project team. Through internal discussion and communication with the customer, we decided to adopt the method of a combination of stamping and cold forging (precision cold forging technology).
Usually, common sheet metal stamping can only form parts with equal material thickness, and the thinning deep drawing method can, at best, get a thick-bottom thin-wall part. The limitations of stamping forming limit its application range. In the production of automotive parts, some thin-walled but unequal-thickness parts are often encountered. They are easy to form by a composite plastic forming method combining stamping and cold forging. Therefore, the combined method of stamping and cold forging can expand into the range of sheet metal processing. The method is to pre-form by stamping and then finally form by cold forging.
