Lithion & Hyundai Canada Officially Establish Alliance for Collection & Recycling of Electric Vehicles

Lithion declares the strategic collaboration with Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. , the Canadian subsidiary of the South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer, for the collection of electric vehicle batteries and modules for recycling.

As per the recent media release, this collaboration is aimed at validating Lithion’s unique extraction solution technology that recovers 98 percent of the minerals contained in batteries. From 2021, the partnership follows an initial agreement and aligns with Hyundai’s commitment to diminishing the carbon emission of its Electric Vehicle line-up.

This is considered a Multi-year agreement between Lithion and Hyundai for Electric Vehicle battery recycling in Canada. According to the agreement, Lithion’s recycling plant in Saint-Bruno will manage battery collection and recycling. The substantial partnership will support Hyundai’s sustainability goals and contribute to the circular economy.

The press release further states that “through this strategic partnership, Lithion will play a pivotal role with over 250 Hyundai and Genesis dealers/distributors across Canada, from coast-to-coast, in supporting Hyundai’s corporate vision and efforts to collect and recycle its lithium-ion vehicle batteries.”
