Literacy Rates and Gutenberg's Printing Press

Literacy Rates and Gutenberg's Printing Press

Before 1440 C.E. only about 30% of European adults were literate.

Around 1640 C.E., that is 200 years after Gutenberg’s improvements to the printing press, the literacy rate climbed to about 47%.

In another 200 years the literacy rate reached 62% as Europe influenced literacy rates all across the world.

Today, the average literacy rate of men and women across the world is around 84%.

You can find information about this in history books. It is well documented how Gutenberg's device enabled huge changes in human history as people's minds were opened to new developments.
