Now that February’s all but behind us, the property market is in full swing. From early January, I noticed everything took off at pace—buyers were out looking, and organised sellers hit the market from mid-January. No wonder we saw a 34% jump in Christchurch sales last month compared to last year.

On the listings side, there was a 29% annual jump in new listings across Greater Christchurch on Trade Me, and search activity increased by 30%. This balance is keeping the market even for both buyers and sellers.

We launched 35 Ashbourne Street last Tuesday, held three open homes for 21 groups, and by Wednesday, the deal was done. Once the buyers came back for a second viewing, they moved quickly: their solicitor reviewed the documents on Monday, a builder inspected, and by Wednesday they’d made a pre-auction offer strong enough to take the property off the market.
