Listening

I am listening with my eyes, I can see what I am listening to. How employees work, how they move and how they speak tell me much. There are days I sit and watch for hours the people I work with and the people I work for. Leaders are always listening with their eyes and ears. What kind of CEO, manager or head coach close their door and hide out? What kind of leader would not listen to those he or she is leading? Too many in government, religion and business are speaking and saying nothing, they are deaf by their own ego and never listening to those they wish to persuade. I enjoy watching "true leaders" who make it a point to meet everyone they are working "with", every employee, every guest, every student and ask them questions. How, what and why. Why are you here, what do you think and very important, how are you. The best "business" is about honest open communication. From top to bottom, senior to newbie..a successful team, company and community is built on trust. By "listening" you find out who and what you are working with. There is no suffering the slackers, the lazy and those who are wasting my time and our money. By listening to each other we can learn anything and everything needed to succeed. I love to engage those who are older than me, those who have lived and have experience. I enjoy listening to the young, I want to know what they think. Imagine working where it is so loud you cannot hear your own voice..I worked on Wall Street and had to use my eyes to know what was going on and who was on the move. In music we are always listening with eyes and all of the body, as a lecturer I am listening to my audience, for their reactions as when I teach. Progress and success come from listening, even to the voice inside you. Who listening to instinct, intuition, to the guest, client, experience and the people. Who is listening to the children, to the signs of the times and to change?
