Listen to Yourself

Are you ready to build a close relationship with the voice that speaks within you? It’s an important step to living your best life and being authentic.?

The voice that speaks within is referred to as your ‘inner voice’. It’s a quiet voice that sometimes is not a voice at all because it gets your attention in many different ways. Not only is it a voice that whispers within you, it also speaks through other people, events and synchronicities.?

Your inner voice is often referred to as your intuitive voice. This is because it seems to have knowledge beyond what you can see and touch. Your inner voice is connected to your purpose and the GPS system that lives within you that is directing you to your purpose.

We use GPS systems all the time in our cars and on our phones. These systems guide us to move from one path to another, usually relating to a physical location. In the case of your inner voice, your GPS system is guiding you to the steps you can take in many areas of your life, most notably helping you fulfill your purpose.

Some would argue that connecting with your purpose is one of the most important things you can do in your lifetime. I too believe it and my purpose is to help you connect with and fulfill your purpose.

The process starts by listening to yourself and learning how to recognize your voice speaking to you. Your inner voice speaks to you all the time, so frequently that sometimes you don’t recognize it.?

When I share this message at live events, I get such delight when I ask people how many of them think that they are intuitive. Being intuitive means that you listen and respond to your inner voice.

Generally, some people raise their hand but not all of them. Then I tell them that I can look at them and know that each one is intuitive. They look at me questionably and I smile when I tell them I know because each one of them came to the event with clothes on. When they finish laughing, I go deeper.

At some point, the night before or in the morning, you asked yourself what to wear today. You probably ask this question daily, quietly within yourself. And you get an answer because you don’t leave the house without clothes on your body, right?

This isn’t the only question you ask yourself quietly each day. You also ask yourself “What am I going to eat?”, and “What time is it”??

Look at the three ways you speak to yourself each day, when you ask yourself:

  1. What am I going to wear?
  2. What do I want to eat?
  3. What time is it?

Notice how you respond to yourself when you ask these questions to yourself.

How does your answer come? Usually it happens through one of your senses. For example, it could come from vision that you see in your mind’s eye. Perhaps you see yourself in your best outfit and you smile because that’s the way you want to feel. Or maybe it comes as a memory of the clothes on your chair and what is or is not wrinkled as the determinator of what you will wear.

Or when you answer the question about what to eat your mouth might start reacting to what you are thinking and that is how you decide. Or the decision could be based on what is convenient, whether or not you have to cook or get in the car and so many other factors. What is the major factor that causes you to decide?

It could also come from a thought, a smell, a touch or something you feel inside. Is it a gut feeling, a tingling in your arms, an inner drive? Or is it your sixth sense, a gnawing within you that you feel your way through.

Examining yourself to understand how your ‘voice’ speaks to you is a very revealing exercise. Because you have been doing speaking to yourself for years, your process comes very natural to you. It’s like breathing air. You don’t necessarily figure out how the lungs work, you just breath. Likewise, with how your voice speaks. You can easily Google how your lungs work. But how do you figure out how you speak to yourself?

You go within. Ask yourself the question then be still as the answer comes. It can be difficult to discern because it is such a natural habit with you. To fully access and learn to understand it you will have to slow your life down.?

First, get comfortable with the fact that you want to know how the answer comes and in a few days you will find yourself paying closer attention to your inner voice as you continue to ponder each of the three questions.?

Once you fully accept the idea, give space for you to listen to yourself. Close your eyes and quiet your mind. If you meditate, this would be a good time. If you do not meditate, look it up and begin the practice.? In the state of mind of meditation, listen to yourself. Turn your focus to your breathing and as you listen to your breath, notice what other thoughts come to you. Some thoughts we bring to ourselves and other thoughts come through your? inner voice energy. It can take a while to differentiate the two, however, it’s well worth the exercise.

Continue to practice on a regular basis, daily if you can. Eventually you will be listening intently and discovering new things about yourself and your inner voice.

Once you get to this point, you will be better equipped to recognize your voice as it speaks to you when you are not asking a question. Being able to recognize your inner voice is a very important step to finding your authenticity.?

Work on this step and I will give you more guidance in future articles. Keep paying attention to yourself and reviewing the information I post. And in the process, enjoy the journey!
