Listen to your gut. The numbers won't tell you everything.
Back in 2013, I started doing a list that I called Makers+Mavericks.
I wanted to do something that would celebrate the inspiring creative community that through their work and their ideas, move our world forward.
I spent months researching it. I had no team. But I had evenings. I learnt how to build it on Medium, which is pretty easy to be honest. And then posted it.
And boom. Nothing.
In total 36 people in the world read it in the entire year. And I was at least 3 of them.
But, I didn’t care. I was into it.
If only 33 people were into it, that was my community. And I was going to serve them. So, each year, I kept publishing it. And the numbers grew. It is now our most read thing we do. By a country mile.
Come this January 1st, when we publish our latest one, tens of thousands of people from all around the world will devour it which is a long way from where it started.
I am glad I listened to my gut and not the numbers.
And thank you to those 33 people, you kept me going.

6 年Agreed, but then I wonder if A certain US president also listens to his gut. It is about balance I feel between types of evidence, gut, numbers and experience ... anything I have missed?

6 年There's a lot to be said about gut instinct...it's so important therefore to make a great first impression - get that right and you'll be on the right track.
