Listen to Your Body
Of all the analytical tools that you use to measure business performance and evaluate commercial decisions, which one is your favourite? Which one do you rely on the most to make your decisions?
Despite the popularity of many modern methods to calculate business efficiency, the one that's never mentioned these days is the human body. Are you surprised? You might be asking how the human body could possibly be seen as a superbly-reliable analytical tool – and that’s a very good question. But the reality is that our bodies are incredibly sensitive and highly reliable feedback mechanisms that can reveal an enormous amount of information about our environment and about our behaviour. It’s time to explore this potential a little further.
When assessing any opportunity or when faced with important decisions, we usually believe in our reasoning powers to come up with the best solution. But humans are rarely ruled by logic. The suggestion here is that we would benefit enormously by combining our rational powers with a simple check on how we feel about any question and about the answers we choose to adopt. Listen to your heart. Or your stomach. Or even your throat. Because all of our decisions produce reactions in our bodies and we can avoid future difficulties by paying more attention to how we feel. In some ways, this is a call to tune into your body’s ability to filter information in terms that reveal whether the course of action will succeed – or not.

If we choose a path that is not in our best interests, or which conflicts with our underlying beliefs, our bodies will know that we’re creating potential conflict and resistance to our plans. This concept is particularly relevant when you’re facing unexpected difficulties and challenges. Rather than looking for the cause in your environment, you might benefit from a moment of introspection to determine if the problem is within you. Listen carefully and your body will always speak the truth.
