To lip or Not to lip…

It has been a while since I wrote an article...

… but dad this is not even Amsterdam!! Can’t believe we drove this long, caught in a jam and you said I will enjoy this trip as this is like having The Netherlands here in Melbourne.

These were the words grumbled from I think likely an 8 or so-year-old girl… I was not intending to eavesdrop… the conversation was loud enough to be heard with ease we were in a queue.

Can you stop complaining and be grateful, your attitude is unbecoming… I am just stating the obvious dad, why would you say this is Amsterdam, firstly, we got here by car not by flight, it’s so hot, it’s just flowers and no one here speaks Dutch.?

Seeing the irate husband the wife stepped in and distracted her with a snack and tried to avoid the attention both father and daughter are attracting.?

At this point the grandmother told the dad why are you getting so worked up, she is just sharing her opinion from her point of view and the life experience she has had… the last holiday before CoVid have you even had a local Melbourne, holiday???

The kid is not spoilt or ungrateful… she has had expectations set and based on that experience she has said what she said… the tone was not right but the views shared cannot be ignored…??

This is similar to the stew I made last week, instead of being grateful, you said this stew taste like crap mum… did I go on an emotional rant… No!??Because I knew maybe I missed a spice or 2, and you were just pointing out that it is not the taste you expected….??

She is right you know, No one here speaks Dutch!?

At this point, the father lightened up and he asked the daughter how was her day going… and said with a serious face… I think you’re right I tried greeting people in Dutch and they all gave me a funny look and stare???.?

This whole episode of 5-10 minutes trailing behind them on the long queue, got me thinking about being in a workplace with diversity and the unfortunate clustering of our much younger colleagues being in generation Z and later, they are often getting categorised as being difficult, opinionated, wanting instant gratification, and etc.?

Maybe if we take a pause and not jump to conclusions, minus the tone/manner on how the opinions are delivered then perhaps there would be a learning opportunity rather than one that is being shut just because they belong to a different generation than ours… while it is fair to say that maybe not all opinions are valid, the least you can do is appreciate that the opinion was shared and make them feel heard.?

If you find yourself not being heard and biting your Lip to share your opinion or thoughts just because is contrary to the views of the masses, and regardless of the generation group you belong to… maybe Concentrix Catalyst is a place for you, as one of the 9 Concentrix Value statements, is that We have a Contrarian Views of Running a Business. We value contrarian views and opinions as that’s when can deliver the best to our clients and customers, harnessing the views and opinions of each and everyone, especially if it is in the best interest of growth and bringing new ideas, and thoughts to the forefront of everything that we do.

Interested in learning more about roles where we welcome and celebrate contrarian views and thoughts… perhaps a career with Concentrix Catalyst is good for you…
