The LION and the WOLF: The Archetypes of Networking on LinkedIn

The LION and the WOLF: The Archetypes of Networking on LinkedIn

In the vast savannah of professional networking, LinkedIn stands tall as the king of the jungle. With millions of users worldwide, it's a platform where connections can be the key to new opportunities, collaborations, and growth. But, much like the animal kingdom, there are two distinct approaches to navigating this digital ecosystem:

?The LION: LinkedIn Open Networkers

Lions are known for their pride and their willingness to connect with anyone and everyone on LinkedIn. They often cast a wide net, amassing thousands of connections in the hope that sheer quantity will translate into quality opportunities. In the LinkedIn jungle, some Lions wear their status as a badge of honor roaring about their extensive networks. They can be boastful, considering their vast number of connections as a symbol of prestige. While this approach may seem bold and ambitious, it can also lead to a digital jungle cluttered with irrelevant connections.

LinkedIn does have a connection limit of 30,000, which is quite generous. However, reaching this limit with connections who don't share your professional interests or goals can dilute the value of your network. It's like inviting everyone to your castle without knowing who they are or why they're there.

It's also important to remember that the roar of a Lion doesn't always signify strength. While Lions may have many connections, the depth and quality of those connections can vary greatly. The quantity of connections can sometimes overshadow the essence of meaningful networking, which is about building valuable relationships.

The WOLF: Will Only Link Fittingly

?Wolves, on the other hand, are known for their strategic and deliberate approach. They form close-knit packs and work together to achieve their goals. Being a WOLF means connecting mindfully and thoughtfully with those who are relevant to your professional journey.

So, what does WOLF stand for in the context of LinkedIn?

W - Wisdom in Connections: A mindful LinkedIn user values quality over quantity. They focus on connecting with individuals who share similar professional interests, goals, and values. Each connection is seen as an opportunity for meaningful engagement and collaboration.

O - Open to Opportunities: While WOLFs are selective in their connections, they remain open to valuable opportunities. They recognize that networking is not just about who you know but also about who knows you. Strategic connections can lead to new ventures, partnerships, and career growth.

L - Leveraging LinkedIn: WOLFs utilize LinkedIn's features effectively. They engage in meaningful conversations, participate in relevant groups, and share valuable content. By actively contributing to the platform, they position themselves as experts in their field.

F - Following Instead of Connecting: In cases where a connection might not be immediately relevant but still holds potential interest, WOLFs choose to follow instead of connect. This allows them to stay updated with the person's activity and decide later if a connection is warranted.

In a world where digital noise can overwhelm your professional journey, adopting the WOLF approach can help you navigate the LinkedIn jungle with grace and precision. It's not about having the most connections; it's about having the right connections. Quality, relevance, and engagement should be the guiding principles of your LinkedIn strategy.

So, are you a LION - casting a wide but indiscriminate net, boasting about your connections? Or are you a WOLF - strategically forging connections that align with your professional journey, emphasizing quality over quantity? The choice is yours.
