We are Walchand Linux Users’ Group(WLUG) from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli. It is a community of people who are always enthusiastic about learning and growing. Here at WLUG, we focus and work majorly on open-source technologies and we also conduct various intra and inter-college activities to spread awareness about those technologies. Today we’re bringing you this post to present the success of one of our mega-events, LinuxDiary 4.0. This year on August 19th and 20th we conducted the 4th edition of LinuxDiary i.e. LinuxDiary 4.0
What is LinuxDiary?
LinuxDiary is a two-day mega-event conducted by Walchand Linux Users' Group(WLUG) annually. LinuxDiary is a significant event which is a workshop on Linux along with wargames at the end of both days.?
The event features a diverse range of sessions, covering topics such as open-source software, Linux commands, networking, file structures and many more. Sessions are delivered by Linux enthusiasts from our community, and we together prepare to deliver informative and engaging sessions for participants of all skill levels. Wargames are catch-the-flag competitions that we conduct at the end of both days.?
LinuxDiary 4.0 was conducted as a two-day workshop, two sessions per day
Day 1 Session 1: Open Source 101
We started with an informative look at the fundamentals of open-source software. We went deep into the diverse Linux ecosystem, examining different software types and organizing them based on availability, kernel types, and architecture. We also made Linux distributions and applications more accessible by using clear analogies and shared some fun and interesting Linux concepts.
Day 1 Session 2: Echo Linux
The next session was equally exciting. In this session we presented on Linux commands, the booting process, starting from the basics and gradually delving into more advanced topics. We even added a fun twist with an engaging command to make learning enjoyable and keep everyone involved.
Day 2 Session 1: The File Maze
In "The File Maze," we explored Linux's file system structures in detail. We clarified various file systems, file-handling commands and essential components like inodes and directories. A significant focus was on understanding the vital concept of file permissions and how they play a role in controlling access and ensuring system security. The session wrapped up by delving into the enjoyable aspects of customizing and configuring your system.
Day 2 Session 2: NetVerse
In this session, we delivered the basics of networking and the commands in Linux for using the networking utilities. At the end of the session, we conducted a live demo of ethical hacking making the audience aware of the attacks done through phishing.?
As LinuxDiary 4.0 concluded as the participants walked away with great knowledge and we, as the organizers of this mega-event, got to learn a lot more than just Linux throughout the event as well as the process of arranging such an event!
