Digital twin

  • Back to Basics: Digital Twin vs. Virtual Twin (Sep. 2024), on 达索系统 blog. Yet another attempt to find a universal and convincing definition :) Begins with "A digital twin is a virtual representation of a physical object or system" ... but from the title of the post we guess than a digital twin is not a virtual twin :) Later we get this screenshot, about which I'd be happy to hear the definition of a scientifically accurate model.

AI

You’re here to read about how AI might impact mechanical design and CAD. For the time being, AI is mostly having an impact in marketing.

  • ChatGPT with Canvas : A new way of working with ChatGPT to write and code, planned to be available to all free users once it's out of beta version.

Lidar

While technological espionage is relatively common in the MotoGP universe, there is an unspoken understanding of where the lines should not be crossed. Discrete photos or videos taken in the pitlane are tolerated, but the act of scanning motorcycles so blatantly was seen as an act of provocation and violation of trust between the teams.

Quantum technologies

  • Understanding Quantum Technologies 2024, the latest edition of Olivier Ezratty's compendium (1500 pages, for free). Simply unbelievable ! The table of contents itself is worth reading. Here's the prologue, which is rather short : less than 400 pages :)

Their definition of a "virtual twin" is actually the definition of a digital twin (minus the "reusability" part, that I don't quite get), while their definition of a digital twin matches closely the definition of a (3D) digital model. Plenty of papers about that, with a "simple" definition (for the manufacturing sector) as an international standard here ISO 23247-1:2021.
