LinkedIn About you
Ready for one more article to make your LinkedIn profile much better?
In the Powerful LinkedIn Profile article by 2020, you will have access to a list of Articles in the series.
How to describe 20 years or more of professional experience, summarized, clear, objective and interesting?
Are you just graduated, and you haven't had a job opportunity yet? Don′t worries!
For one the available space seems not enough, for another it seems endless space, definitely an interesting paradox.
I like to compare the job market with a big supermarket with products on the shelf. Imagine LinkedIn as this big supermarket, we are the products and our skills are the benefits that the product can offer.
This space is not a space to say that you are looking for a professional relocation.
Everyone is somehow looking for a new job opportunity.
So use this space to say about your skills and accomplishments, no use copying ready texts from other profiles, believe me, or identified recruiters.
Be Authentic :)!
Lets GO?
The aim is not to recreate your resume in this space, take your notepad and pencil in hand:
- Write which job title you are looking for, be specific! You′ll use this as the basis for the items below.
- List all your skills that are relevant to a job.
- List your accomplishments, but only the most relevants.
- List the new technologies, softwares of the market that you are strong.
- List your experience in other countries and international environment.
Ok, now comes the more challenging part, create a text with this information, start talking about your skills based on what you have already experienced, going through the softwares, technologies and projects and your experience in the international environment. Make a paragraph describing, if you have publications and patents also summarize it here.
This text needs to be light, leave the details of the career in the section where you list and describe the last companies where you have worked for, their roles and accomplishments.
But, what about you just graduated?
Believe me the profiles I′d personally evaluated from young graduates, maybe 98% of them, don't bring any interesting information about them.
Insert in this space your academic achievements, either project that shows what you want as a job opportunity, if you are doing volunteer work, put that content on your profile.
Many volunteer areas may gain experience by doing work, helping to organize events or fundraising campaigns, helpping with social networks, creating advertisements, writing texts, a program that could be repaginated. Whether on a website or building an app, each young professional should look for something along these lines at the beginning of their careers, as well as help with the good causes, you will be starting your way.
Speeches like, I do anything, I just need an opportunity, or I still have nothing to write because I never worked. You need to demonstrate what you know and where you want to go, are aware of the challenges you may encounter, but are available and motivated to do so.
Completing a degree at an excellent university will not put you ahead of another candidate who will graduate from a less prestigious university. Sure, reputable schools are welcome, but a serious selection process will explore your personal skills, such as your ability to work in groups, your attitude to various situations, your emotional balance, the way you communicate, your ability to learn and adaptability, among other things more important in everyday life.
Follow the same steps as before, create your text and good luck!
After creating this text, you should review how its job positions and accomplishments are described in the experience section, leave the details there.
