LinkedIn Visibility Tips for Introverted Leaders

LinkedIn Visibility Tips for Introverted Leaders

It’s often not just what you know but who you know that gets you a look in when it comes to opportunities. And with a rumoured 70-80% of senior executive roles, and 75% of all jobs filled through the hidden job market, if you’re not making networking part of your repertoire, you could be missing out. Many introverted women don't like networking and in this episode of the Quietly Visible Podcast I talk about why introverts don't like networking, share tips on how to do it, and how you can make the most of virtual networking. With in-person networking events starting back up again after the pandemic, it's time to dust off your networking shoes and make networking work for you. Listen to the episode on the link above.

LinkedIn Visibility Tips for Introverted Leaders

Last week I started a 4 week visibility challenge for subscribers to this newsletter and if you haven’t joined in yet, you can join in now. It is free to join, and you don’t need to sign up to anything to take part. You can let me know you’re joining in by commenting below, or if you want to do it privately, you are welcome to do so.

LinkedIn is a great tool for raising your visibility. You can utilise it for networking, to strategically position yourself for a career move or your next promotion, as well as showcasing your thought leadership and increasing your influence.

If you want to do any of the above and are not utilising LinkedIn, below are some tips to help you get started even if you’re not taking part in the challenge.

Many of my coaching clients haven’t used LinkedIn effectively prior to working with me and are pleasantly surprised with the results they get once they start to do so. For example, one client who didn’t like networking and didn’t previously use LinkedIn secured a Chief Operating Officer role. The actions I encouraged her to carry out on LinkedIn helped in the process of her securing it.

The challenge last week was about optimising your LinkedIn profile and I shared links to articles on the LinkedIn blog to help with that. If you’ve carried out your actions you should now have a fully optimised, standout LinkedIn profile. ?

This week’s challenge is about raising your visibility here on LinkedIn:

Identify organisations you want to work for

Go to the company pages of organisations you want to work for, look at their people and see if there is anyone working there that you know. Send them a message and let them know you are interested in a role at the organisation. Ask them if they would be up for having a virtual coffee so that you can find out more about the culture.

Identify people at the organisations you want to work for who you don’t know but who you would like to connect with and send them a connection request. Let them know you are interested in the organisation and would like to connect with them. Then nurture and develop those relationships and engage with their content.

Follow your organisation’s company page

If you want to stay at the organisation you are currently at and want to raise your visibility or position yourself for promotion, follow their company page. Engage with the posts and comment on them and share them. By doing this, one client became more visible to the CEO which led to her leading on a particular project which raised her visibility and influence within the organisation.

Identify decision makers, influencers, and anyone else who you would like to connect with who works there that you are not connected with and send them a connection request. Engage with their posts, comment on them, and share them. Nurture and develop those relationships.

Whose radar do you want to come under?

Engage with the posts of the people you want to be visible to, those whose radar you want to come under. This could be people at your organisation, it could be your wider industry. Enter their names in the LinkedIn search bar and when the options come up, select ‘posts’. Comment on and share their content.

I hope you enjoy this week's challenge. If you have any questions, ask by commenting below, and let me know how you get on.

Next week’s challenge will be about raising your visibility through showcasing your thought leadership.

Thank you for your loving words to me on this wonderful day. I went to a very big event on February 26th before the beer virus broke out .I walked out from that with an offer from a fortune 500 business that wanted me to work with them but I decided that it was the wrong timing to start a business. I was right on the money. Businesses are upside down now.Trust your first hunch, it's maybe right.
