In Nax, Switzerland

Greetings from beautiful Switzerland!

Was vacationing in Germany last week, in Switzerland at the moment and heading to India in the next couple of days.

With a fairly hectic travel and sight-seeing schedule, I haven't had the time to be very active on the platform. Did you notice?

However I didn't want to miss sending out my monthly LinkedIn newsletter and managed to squeeze in some time to put this together. It's going to be short.

To avoid being totally Missing in Action on LinkedIn, I leveraged some of this platform's "vacation" features and tools.

?? If you are planning a vacation, here are a few tips on how to stay connected and make the most of this professional platform while sipping on that tropical drink:

?? Away Message: If you have LinkedIn Premium, you can set an Away message on LinkedIn, informing other members, to expect a delayed response to their messages. Here is the message I created. Besides informing people that I may not be able to respond immediately, I utilized almost all the 300 characters, and included a few Call-To-Action(CTA) links.

If you want to learn about LinkedIn Premium features, watch this short video.

? Schedule Posts: If you don't want to worry about posting while you are lounging by the beach or hiking up a mountain, you can create and schedule them to go live at a later time using LinkedIn's scheduling feature. That way, you can maintain a consistent presence without interrupting your vacation mode.

In fact because of the time difference or time zone, I scheduled this newsletter.

Note - Scheduling posts is not supported for the following types of posts:

  • Events
  • Jobs
  • Services
  • Polls
  • Reshares
  • Posts to groups
  • Multi-Image Posts

?? Stay Engaged: Pop into your LinkedIn feed now and then to like, comment, and share relevant posts as well as check out inbox and invitations. Engaging with your network even during vacation shows your commitment to building valuable connections.

?? Share the Experience: If you're having a unique vacation experience, why not share a post about it? Showcase your passion for travel, the beauty of the places you are visiting or the local culture you're exploring. Personal posts and letting your network know what you are doing or why you might not be so active on the platform, builds your know, like and trust factor.

Pro-Tip: When you do pop into LinkedIn, do make sure to respond to the comments on the posts you scheduled.

Here's a quick tip on how to find who has reacted, commented or tagged you in a post. This feature is especially valuable when you are on vacation and aren't checking your notifications regularly.

?? Connect with Locals: Reach out and connect with professionals from your LinkedIn network who are based in your destination. Meeting locals can lead to exciting opportunities, collaborations, or even expand your network globally! I did reach out to some of my connections in Germany, Switzerland and India after doing a city and country specific search. Unfortunately the timing didn't work out for my European connections. Hopefully will be meeting up with some of my LinkedIn connections in Bangalore, India.

I did however meetup with my husband's Swiss relatives in Nax, where their families are originally from.

One of the tips I share in this "LinkedIn on Vacation" newsletter is about leveraging LinkedIn to connect with people in your network who are based in the cities you are visiting. I am on the last leg of my vacation in Bangalore, India and met up in person with Ramya Sampath, Head of India Partner Engineering at LinkedIn, Bangalore.
