2020 may firmly be in our rearview mirror, but most would agree that the pandemic will have a lasting impact on how we work and live. To understand how the world of work and business will evolve in 2021 and beyond, we got LinkedIn Top Voices 2020 – a collection of local experts driving today’s professional conversation – to do some crystal ball-gazing. Check out their predictions below on a host of areas, from entrepreneurship to personal finance to remote work.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
More and more people will become independent creators. And the next decade will see the emergence of multi-million-dollar companies that comprise just one individual.
Follow Ankur Warikoo
Solo entrepreneurs are going to increase significantly across the board, be it chefs, musicians, comedians or dancers – everyone is going to leverage the wider market called the internet. Expect people to tap the internet to monetise their talent and skills to the fullest.

BUSINESS
In 2021, we can expect innovation at the business model level. The definition of “normal” has changed and the ventures that made it through 2020 are the ones that quickly digitised and pivoted their offerings. This manner of innovation and agility will continue.
Follow Divya Gokulnath
Investors have been talking about environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing, or sustainable investing, for a while. We could see the trend take off if consumers start demanding transparency in the goods and services they buy.
Follow Hansi Mehrotra
2020 has been the year of leadership detox for enterprises. This year will see the emergence of younger, agile and expressive leadership that will orchestrate three key shifts: quicker moves from concept to creation, cooperation to dynamic collaboration and communication to empathetic connection.
Follow Kamal Karanth
Businesses will become more socially conscious. 2020 awoke us to harsh inequalities in society. Sustainable and socially responsible investing will gain momentum, traditional VCs will move down the income pyramid, and impact investing will become “mainstream”.
Follow Roopa Kudva
For another year or so, businesses in several industries may find it hard to grow their audience and even harder to acquire new customers. Many product companies would find more value in improving retention and launching offerings aimed at higher-income groups.

FEMALE LEADERSHIP
Women leaders have emerged as frontrunners in their capable management of the crisis. These visible role models, along with a higher ratio of diversity-conscious millennial employees in the workforce, will give an impetus to companies’ diversity agenda.
Follow Apurva Purohit
Work from home will fundamentally alter how we think about hiring, helping working women and especially young mothers. Feminine skillsets like creativity, vulnerable leadership, empathy and storytelling will get more respect in the post-COVID world.
Follow Radhika Gupta
INVESTING AND PERSONAL FINANCE
Over the last 4-5 years, direct mutual fund distributors taught people how to invest. These early adopters are now earning significantly more, and we would see online-first financial advisory models emerge and cater to these early adopters.
Follow Ajinkya Kulkarni
2021 will be the year of internet IPOs and the next few years will have watershed moments. Indian stock investors will have the opportunity of a lifetime to invest in digital companies and businesses that will dominate the markets for decades to come.
Follow Alok Kejriwal
Crisis sparks clarity. In 2021, more individuals will opt to take control of their finances rather than brush them under the carpet. Finances will be viewed as a tool used to invest in ourselves, creating a new outlook towards wealth creation that is beneficial for the economy.
Follow Kunal Shah
REMOTE WORK
The workplace has moved from the office to home. The supply chain is scattered. 2021 will see cybercrimes continue to rise because it’s harder to manage security across millions of homes, devices, software and apps.
Follow Abhijit Bhaduri
We are unlikely to return to the office full-time. A hybrid work-from-home model could become standard across the tech industry. Many tech startups will go fully remote from day one to save funds.
Follow Aditya Vivek Thota
The work-from-anywhere movement will create new business opportunities. We will see many tourist locations become hotspots for professionals, replete with 5G internet, automated services and whatnot.
Follow Kamalika Poddar
Online will become the default for meetings with “face-to-face” implying video. The quality of video-conferencing will also improve dramatically. Offline meetings would carry the weight and importance of a hand-written note.
Follow Karthik Srinivasan
With the rise of remote work and collaboration tools, we will see innovations such as small suburban coworking spaces. Bars and restaurants could host brainstorming and catch-up sessions for executives on Friday afternoons, followed by happy hours for bonding.
Follow Sajith Pai
A lot more people will work from home and large enterprises will embrace change and trust their employees more. More people will opt for a second source of income from side jobs like freelancing.
Follow Vanshika Goenka
SPENDING
Purpose will increasingly become the focal point for individuals, businesses and the world at large. Simply put, “why” will take centre stage as we begin to question the need for products, services, solutions, connections, technologies, policies and procedures.
Follow Nischala Murthy Kaushik
The feeling of luxury will assume a new meaning. It’s family get-togethers versus travel to unknown locations and basic need fulfilment against acquisition of expensive brands. Options theory will also get validated: when people get what they wanted all along, they do not want it that much.

3 年"The COVID-19 crisis has created an imperative for companies to reconfigure their operations—and an opportunity to transform them. To the extent that they do so, greater productivity will follow." Now businesses had to scramble to install or adapt new technologies under intense pressure. The near-term challenge, then, is to move from reacting to the crisis to building and institutionalizing what has been done well so far. - For consumer industries, and particularly for retail, that could mean improving digital and omnichannel business models. - For healthcare, it’s about establishing virtual options as a norm. - For insurance, it’s about personalizing the customer experience. - And for semiconductors, it’s about identifying and investing in next-generation products. - For everyone, there will be new opportunities in M&A and an urgent need to invest in capability building. The year 2021 is full Oppertunities for entrepreneurs.

3 年2021 will witness a regulation of Work From Home (WFH) so that it is not misused by employers and employees alike. Climate change and sustainability along with risk will become sunrise career streams globally. The next generation will prefer gainful self employment to painful employment, with contract - based roles gaining prominence. IT Business Analysis, Learning & Development/Training ,Medicine ,Agriculture/Farming, Accounting and Law will not be adversely impacted by technology driven job redundancies and will likely flourish. Learning & Development will have more work in innovative content creation and online training delivery than in traditional classroom activity. India will likely experience greater levels of ease in doing business ,with Indian entrepreneurs becoming more and more export oriented in their vision. Indian students will likely go in for a general 10+2 basic education till the age of 18 and then go in for vocational based courses that are aligned to national development ,returning to higher education later in life only if required. Developing nations like India will be the place to be as economic reforms gather pace and development activity moves towards the hinterland. People the world over will come to realize that it is more worthwhile bringing a strong humanistic impulse to life on earth than to try exploring outer space and that natural God given intelligence is better than the artificial variety. Managers will need to be more ‘hands on’ than ever before. Financial literacy will come to be given as much importance as financial inclusion. A fusion of traditional spiritual values and technology will ensure all round well being for the global community.

3 年Sense of vindication to see #workfromhome #policy becoming a reality in 2020 having urged for it in 2004. Going forward, I see three broad trends in #futureofwork: 1. #hybrid #workplaces with more open and less-cluttered #officespaces acting as the hub with #remoteworking and #coworkingspace as #spoke, with #realtime #connectivity enabling #collaboration, hopefully resulting in slowing #migration and accelerating #trafficspeed. 2. #workforce would become more #diverse with greater proportion of, and #opportunities for #gigworkers and #parttimejobs. 3. Enhanced #focus on #skills #outcomes and #worklifebalance for #people even as more mundane #stuff would see #automation, with #artificialintelligence supporting #humans.
