Have you reached out to someone on LinkedIn and left them a message, only to hear from them…next month! What kind of an impression did that leave with you? Do you feel like ever doing business with them?
Today I found a sharp individual who had visited my profile. I wanted to reach out to them and send a message in response. I noticed that they were not connected with me directly, so I sent them a “paid InMail”. (I am on a paid platform because that gives you 15-30 “Paid InMail” that you can use to send direct messages to people that are not your first connections…depending on which program you subscribe to with LinkedIn.)
Guess what I found!
I had already sent this person an InMail a month ago that was never responded to. Hmmm!
Have you noticed that people do not respond very quickly on LinkedIn messages? Ever wonder why you are not getting the responses you expected with LinkedIn?
Ok, here’s the schtick.
When we find someone that we would like to strike up a conversation with on LinkedIn to build rapport and find ways you can help each other, it is common courtesy to respond in a timely fashion, don’t you think?
Once I have seen that there has been no response to my InMail, then I check their “Contact Info”. –And guess what I usually find?!
There is NOTHING in their Contact Info! There is no email contact and no phone number! So my question to all these people is, “Why are you in business?”
By refraining from including your contact information on your profile page, it is like you are slamming and locking the door to all your potential customers. Nobody can reach you. Then WHY do you even have a profile on LinkedIn if you don’t respond to InMail or have an email or phone number for people to reach you with? In this case, you may as well close your business and walk away.
It surprises me that some of the biggest perpetrators of this are the business coaches. No wonder I hear from these coaches that LinkedIn doesn’t work. Now we know why it doesn’t work for them. 'Cause they don't work it! Are they lazy or just incompetent?
They don’t respond to InMail and they don’t have their contact information on their profile page. Simple as that.
Remember that those people who succeed in business are those people who, “Do the things that most people won’t do when they don’t feel like doing them, so they will have the things that most people won’t have.” Zig Zigglar
So, get on your LinkedIn for 5 minutes a day and check who’s viewed your profile and who’s sent you an InMail. Respond in kind. That’s how you build credibility on LinkedIn.
“Do the things that most people won’t do when you don’t feel like doing them, so you can have the things that most people won’t have.”
