LinkedIn success lessons from 3 billionaires

I was in a Zoom meeting recently with a new client and she asked me how I’m able to produce so much content for LinkedIn and for my newsletters.
I pointed to the bookshelf behind me, packed full and overflowing with more than a hundred books in various genres.
“This bookshelf,” I told her, “is not for display. I do actually read a whole lot!”
You see, if you want to create good content, you need to consume good content - and lots of it.
Books, podcasts, TV programmes… all necessary.
Just this past week, I finished binge-watching Season 2 of Undercover Billionaire and I learnt a whole lot from it that will make its way into various content forms in future.
Selling the American dream...
In case you’re not familiar with Undercover Billionaire, it’s a reality show where self-made entrepreneurs are taken undercover in a brand new state, miles away from home, and given just 90 days to turn $100 into a million-dollar company.
They’re not allowed to use their name, their contacts, their influence or anything else that helped them reach the billion-dollar status in their own businesses.
The idea of the show is to prove that the American dream is still alive - that anyone can make it anywhere with a little bit of hard work, determination and resourcefulness.
I absolutely love the show! I’m not American but I’ve been completely sold on the American dream for years! ??
Season 2 featured three billionaires - Monique Mosley (music mogul), Elaine Culotti (construction expert) and Grant Cardone (marketing guru).
I picked up many business and life lessons from each episode (and the whole series) but the following three, in particular, have a lot of relevance to your LinkedIn journey.
3 LinkedIn Lessons from Undercover Billionaire
?1) Connections are currency
Who you know is still just as important as what you know, if not more so.
The key word here is “know”.
Forget focusing on superficial stats like how many people are in your network, if you really want to build your business on LinkedIn, focus instead on building relationships.
Don’t just gather connections, get to know them and interact with them through your posts, their posts, direct messages, zoom conversations and more.
When you have good people in your corner, you can get your business off the ground and build something that lasts.
2) You only fail when you give up
There’s a scripture in the Bible that says, “A righteous man falls down seven times and gets up again” (Proverbs 24:16).
The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people often lies in how they process and deal with failure.

Unsuccessful people fear failure and do everything they can to avoid it.
Successful people not only know that failure is inevitable, they embrace and expect it as part of the journey to success, therefore when they fall down, they just get up and keep going.
On your journey to building a visible and profitable business on LinkedIn, you’re going to experience failure at some point - like putting out posts with no engagement, offering a service that no one takes up, showing up consistently day in and day out with no cash to show for it.
When this happens, remember that LinkedIn success is a long-term game.
Failure is only failure when you stop getting up from your fall - when you give up the fight and walk away from the goal.
Successful people never stop getting up - no matter how hard or how long the fall.
3) Commitment precedes success
If you’re currently struggling to find a LinkedIn strategy that will help you reach that visible and profitable status in your business, the first place to start is not in figuring out how to outsmart the algorithm.
It's not even in learning when and how to post content or find your target audience.
The starting place for making LinkedIn work for you is to first decide to make LinkedIn your number one platform for marketing and commit to that decision and the process.
Commitment precedes success in every area of life. Once you commit, the rest will follow.
Are you ready to commit to LinkedIn?
