LinkedIn SEO and newsletters, Netflix… and Online Marketing

[This newsletter went out earlier today to subscribers; we've changed the timing slightly on posting on LinkedIn to see if it impacts distribution/views]

Greetings from pollen filled Virginia.?Achooo.

Today marks the 4th week I'll be distributing this newsletter on LinkedIn as well as via email.?So far, I'm up to 639 subcribers (somewhere between 10-15% of my connections), at a very fast growth rate.?Additionally, every time I publish a newsletter, it shows up in subscribers "feeds" on LinkedIn, so they might see the notification when they're logged in, or in an email.?"Views" tend to be in the 3-400 range.?However, when you look at actual extent of the reporting in the screenshot below it doesn't inspire confidence.??LinkedIn just announced record earnings, so they may be more focused on building out their recruiter and advertising products.?Newsletters might be counter productive for them - if I can reach 500 people with a newsletter, I might be less likely to pay for advertising with them, but on the other hand, it might be?balanced out by keeping people on the platform .

Given our focus on SEO, there have been some interesting search changes.

A Google?search on Josh Greene?has my personal LinkedIn profile at #5.?A month ago it would have been the Mather Group site.?A search on "Josh Greene Mather Group" has my LinkedIn profile outranking The Mather Group site.?Nothing about our work on Wikipedia seems to have changed.

Within LinkedIn "on platform" SEO, rankings have improved, and I've seen profile views double, going from 24 to 48 a week, which seems substantial?given you need to be doing a deliberate search.??

Last week, I mentioned I would be doing a LinkedIn Live event on Friday, mostly to see how much the LinkedIn algorithm would promote it.?Short answer: nope.

Longer answer: a) you would expect that going "live" would be similar to Zoom or Gotomeeting.?That's inaccurate, you seemingly need to sign up for a separate streaming service.?That was a fun 15 minutes of scrambling pre event.?No notifications were sent out ahead of time, except what I organically sent.?When I did go live, many of my connections did get a notification I was going live.?Net results: 6 people attended, and 35 total unique event visits.?On the other hand, one of those 6 visitors was a good lead.??
