LinkedIn is doubling down on Video. If you share video, this is exciting.
You may remember a few years back (2019), LinkedIn introduced a "Reels-like" feature called Stories. It was at the top of the newsfeed and visible on desktop. The videos lasted 24 hours and were in the vertical format.
They didn't last long. Sept 2021. The outcry was huge.
But, they are back. Only on your phone.
2 months ago, LinkedIn announced plans to roll this new version out in answer to the popularity of TikTok and the younger demographic of LinkedIn.
When LinkedIn rolls things out, Influencers get the feature first. Influencers are people like Adam Grant, Melinda Gates and Snoop Dogg.
These are Titans of Business and allowed to exceed the 30,000 connection limit us mere mortals get. Melinda is approaching 7 million followers.
Snoop is a latecomer to LinkedIn, but has taken the platform by storm and is nearing 200,000 followers.
Next to receive the rollout are premium users. They have some crazy algorithmic way of determining -
a) who are the highest level of premium users (there are 4 levels) and b) who are the heaviest users of LinkedIn.
I've been waiting to announce this until it hit my phone. The above photo is what it looks like. It is still in Beta. I can view the feature, but I can't share my own, yet.
It has the 'scroll-up' functionality that other reels have. You can customize the feed by liking or selecting 'not interested' for each video.
IMHO, they all appear very loud, flashy, and a little on the sensational side. Many are edited in a 'cut-reels' style and move super fast.
There is very little info out about them. I have heard that the limit is 90 seconds. IG is 60 seconds. And I see no way to sort or search for videos that might be relevant to me.
LinkedIn decides what you find in your feed by 'reading' your profile and serving up what might be appropriate. I did not find that to be true. Many were sponsored(ads) of aimed at enterprise.
Beta.
It is a grand experiment. One to watch.
The opportunity is huge. If LinkedIn has the patience to work on this feature and does not jettison it quickly without adaptation like it has done so many times before.
Right now, it is a perfect death scrolling opportunity if you are trying to fall asleep or kill time.

This one is way too new to make a prediction on.
Video is Hot on LinkedIn. And, LinkedIn is riding that wave. Will they ace it or get tubed?

Video is the fastest path to "Know, Like, and Trust."
Don't get too excited about the Reels feature, this is a 'wait and see' situation as best.
until next time...
