LinkedIn Priorities: Bell First!

LinkedIn Priorities: Bell First!

You do NOT need to accept LinkedIn connection requests within 24-48 hours.

Yes, I'll say it. They will wait for you.

When I go into my LinkedIn app or go into the site, I go to my NOTIFICATIONS first.

Here's why: My notifications tell me who is tagging me, who is commenting on my posts, who wants to get my attention. I encourage people here to ring my bell but you know what? I've clicked on and rang plenty of bells too. That notification bell at the top of the screen also notifies me when all those people who I have rung their bell, have posted.

Getting back to those connection requests...for all I know, the connection requests waiting for me to approve were sent blindly. In many cases they are.

When those requests are personalized and it's obvious that the person looked at my profile before sending that personalized connection request, that's when I smile and graciously accept. Those personalized request are a no-brainer. I always accept those people. They did their homework.

The people who want to connect with you will wait.

The people in your NOTIFICATIONS want to make sure you:

1. See them

2. Recognize them

3. Respond to them

So moral of the story, click on the bell first. That being said, don't ignore the invitations completely. Get to those after notifications. :)

What do you pay more attention to at the top of your LinkedIn screen?

When I'm being mindful about my LinkedIn activity, my order of checking is: 1. Direct messages 2. Notifications 3. Invitations Reasoning: I don't like leaving 1-to-1 conversations hanging, so DMs almost always come first for me. Notifications often inform the reasons why some people are trying to connect with me, hence they come second and then the invitations are third. I'm practice, I'm on LinkedIn so much that I'm often clicking between these screens a lot, so it's rarely as regimented as this 1-2-3 suggests.

Some brag they have over one thousand unanswered connection requests. Well, aren't they popular? High school never ends and most of my connections come to me through comments. I rarely request to connect with anyone. This is the only place in the world where people come to me and I accept most requests. There are still people into Forex and Bitcoin which surprises me. Do I want to connect with people whose money disappears? No, not really.

Great points and ones I use.....just forgot about the bell idea. I can say I get plenty of what you say and I will just let them sit there and make my decision on whether I ever accept. Its up to them to decide on how to communicate and if they dont want to personalize an invite or their invite seems like they are just trying to get my business or troll my connections, then they are not for me.
