LinkedIn Post Ideas To Try Out In Your Business

LinkedIn Post Ideas To Try Out In Your Business

When we recently interviewed Founders of B2B companies, the key findings were that those firms mostly likely to be succeeding on social media were focusing on doing 3 things well:

  1. Growing an audience of their ideal clients / business partners / hires
  2. Building trust and credibility with that audience through what they post
  3. Finding ways to convert that audience so that you increasingly have a relationship with them off of LinkedIn (or any of the other social platforms)

But, for any Founder wanting to replicate this kind of success, one of the questions this then raises is "what should we be posting?"

Whenever I speak to businesses about the challenges they face with their social media, a recurring theme is running out of ideas about what to post! So, today's newsletter edition aims to address that.

In this edition, I've pulled together some ideas from LinkedIn experts Brenda Meller?? , Jo Edge and Ann Marie Beebout . Would love to read any additional suggestions or experiences you may have in the comments...

Three Ideas For What To Post on LinkedIn

On a live Q&A session earlier this year, Brenda Meller shared three quick suggestions of things you can pepper your content calendar with - that don't take an age to come up with:

  1. Inspirational quotes. We all have our favourite quotes, so why not share yours and tell people why that quote is important to you, why you believe in the values it shares or how it ties into the work that you do?
  2. Industry articles. But don't just share something you think is insightful or valuable; instead, explain to people why you're sharing that article and / or the insights you got from it.
  3. Company page content. The third idea of what to post is to go to your company page on LinkedIn (or indeed the company pages of any other businesses you would like to befriend). See what's recently been posted and then go ahead and repost that. Ideally, repost by adding your own intro and observations (but even a simple repost is better than posting nothing!)

Take 3 minutes to hear more on these ideas from Brenda here:

Should I Post Personal Content on LinkedIn?

In the live Q&A with Jo Edge a couple of months ago, we got to talking about the thorny issue of posting personal content on LinkedIn.

Certainly, any posts that spark an emotional reaction are likely to outperform other types of content on LinkedIn; and, because personal posts are more likely to spark emotions than business content, by definition they are more likely to perform well in terms of visibility.

Besides increased visibility, the other upside to sharing a bit of personal content is that it helps people to feel they know you better. We all know the saying that people tend to buy from those they know, like and trust - well, a bit of personal content peppered in your content calendar goes a long way toward achieving that.

It's certainly possible to go too far though - be wary of demeaning yourself in the pursuit of visibility. But, done well, a bit of personal content can be an important element in your content strategy here. We shared some examples of what we've seen work in the short video below.

I hope our conversation helps - and would love to read some of your thoughts on personal content in the comments ??????

More Ideas For What To Post On LinkedIn

Even more ideas came out of my conversation with Ann Marie Beebout, including:

  • Your expertise is valuable when shared with other people. The client challenges you have overcome this week are relatable and insightful for others to learn about. Don't get put off by the thought that "no-one's going to be interested" in the expert insights you're able to share. Those who are your ideal clients will be interested, even if these posts don't generate mass engagement.
  • Talk through problems you've solved. Other people will have that same problem and will appreciate you sharing how you worked through the problem. Plus, again, this is very relatable.
  • Help other people to look smart in their careers by sharing market data and trends that you've come across. If you have unique perspectives on your industry's challenges from the exposure you get to businesses in your industry, share that. These are insights that are uniquely available to those following you and your business, so don't shy away from sharing them!
  • ... and, last but not least, find a way to weave some storytelling into your posts. People LOVE stories, so if you can take what you were going to post and find a way to turn that into a story, then you're well on the way to achieving greater success!

Nicely done Tony! Thanks for including me in the original event and in this post / article (LinkedIn blog). And I just learned today that when you tag someone in an article, they get notified. Is that new? It used to be that tags in articles were clickable but not pushing a notification to that person. Perhaps John Espirian or Kevin D. Turner know if this is something new.
