Hey LinkedIn community! ??
In today’s "Learning in Public" series, let's compare Amazon EBS and Amazon EFS, two key AWS storage services.
Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store):
- Scope: Single Availability Zone.
- Attachment: An Amazon EC2 instance and the EBS volume must be in the same Availability Zone.
- Use Case: Ideal for data that requires low-latency access within a single AZ.
Amazon EFS (Elastic File System):
- Scope: Regional service, spanning multiple Availability Zones.
- Access: Concurrent access from all AZs within a Region and on-premises servers via AWS Direct Connect.
- Use Case: Perfect for applications that need scalable, high-availability file storage across multiple AZs.
Key Differences:
- Availability: EBS is restricted to a single AZ, while EFS is available across multiple AZs.
- Access: EFS supports concurrent access from multiple AZs and on-premises servers, unlike EBS.
Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right storage solution based on your application's needs.
