LinkedIn Newsletters: A Year Later...

I remember the video chat like it was yesterday. Jeff Young told me, "Do it, you won't regret it." I respect Jeff, he has a LOT of experience on LinkedIn and prior to that conversation, I've considered posting a newsletter but it wasn't until I spoke to Jeff that I was convinced that this newsletter would allow me to diversify my content.
It worked! A year into creating LinkedIn newsletters and I can successfully say that more than 6700 people have subscribed to the monthly newsletter, and I've stuck to the schedule. Just like creating any content on LinkedIn, consistency is ultra-important, so the first Wednesday of every month, my subscribers are getting the newsletter.
My SEO is improving, thousands of people are seeing me who may not have seen me at all through my content in their feed. My profile views are up year over year too.
You do you, I'm not here to preach or to give orders. I'll only share my perspective. More than 6700 people are getting a newsletter who weren't getting one a year ago. More than 6700 people are being notified that I'm posting a newsletter who weren't being notified a year ago.

Social media is all about visibility.
Preparing the newsletter takes a little longer than my regular content but the pros definitely outweigh the cons for me. That's why I'll stay with it.
Do you write and publish a LinkedIn newsletter? What are your thoughts on doing it? Is it worth it? Do the pros outweigh the cons or vice versa?

2 年It’s definitely rewarding listening to our friend Jeff! ????
Relentlessly helpful? LinkedIn? nerd, trainer & speaker. Creator of Espresso+ community & UpLift Live conference. Not a douche canoe ??
2 年That's excellent growth, Deanna. Well done for listening to Jeff. He's the man! I'm up to 12K+ subscribers to my LinkedIn newsletter, and these pieces get better visibility than the equivalents on my blog. There are strategic reasons for maintaining both, as I talk about in Content DNA. Good luck with year 2!

2 年Many started a newsletter when it was the flavor of the month. Mic Adam has checked to see who maintains the frequency. Judi Fox, not unlike Sade, takes a long time to publish and the next one is worthwhile. The only newsletter I would write is one I never want to write about again: Mass Shootings in America. It is terrible that I forgot about certain ones that were covered at the time. I don't want Creator Mode. It would create a false feeling of celebrity. If I were popular on here and treated like dirt on my job (as mostly everyone on my level is) management would not care if I called myself a "Thought Leader" or some made up title.
