New Features in July 2023
LinkedIn returned to full speed in delivering new features in July and several of them are exceedingly useful. The new features are:
?? LinkedIn Coach
Reported by Social Media Today, this new, centralised AI tool guides you through the various new AI-based profile-building and usage options. It’s billed as helping you 'apply for jobs, learn new skills and find more ways to connect with your network – all backed by the power of AI.'
?? Report this profile redesigned
Two new additions to reporting profiles are Suggest a profile correction and Let us know this person is deceased. If you find inaccurate information on a profile you think needs to be removed or changed this is where to do it. Inaccurate information can include false claims of employment, education, accomplishments and awards.
?? Enhance your profile
Use AI to make changes to your Headline and About profile sections. Only relevant for beginners who haven’t already put time and effort into their profiles as the suggestions provided come nowhere near meeting the definition of ‘enhance’.
?? Design a post
An AI-based image design app has been added that allows us to create and add graphics directly into our posts. Called Designer, it uses prompts and suggestions to help us create impactful images. It also adds ideas for Alt text and best hashtags for discoverability.?
If you have this brand new feature (not available on free accounts), you'll see a new icon alongside Design a post prompt when you go to Start a post.
?? Add profile sections to Featured
In the same way that with one click we can add posts to Featured, now we can add 4 sections from our profiles.
?? Experience – and not just the entire section but individual roles.
?? Recommendations – these sit at the bottom of our profiles so to be able to include one or more is incredibly useful.
?? Licenses & certifications – if you have these, it makes sense to highlight them in your Featured.
?? Courses – this doesn’t display well and seems an odd inclusion.
?? LinkedIn Podcast Network
If you have a podcast you may be able to join LinkedIn’s podcast network which has been expanded outside the US in conjunction with iHeart Media.
?? Active group?badge
Groups with members who post and comment consistently receive this badge. It is a positive signal for members to join the group. Active groups have a better chance of being discovered by LinkedIn members although the badge cannot be seen until you are inside the group.
?? Subscribe bell?updated
When you follow someone new you’re encouraged via a popup box to turn on all post notifications for them or you can choose Not now. On mobile, there are additional options for how often you want to be notified All posts (default), Top posts or No posts.
?? People who talk about #<hashtag>
The hashtags that users of Creator mode nominate under ‘Talks about’ in their profile intro are now coming up in Search results.
2 Improvements to Collaborative Articles
?? Request to contribute
It will now be possible for those of us previously unable to contribute to AI-generated collaborative articles to do so with the addition of a Request to contribute button. Whether you will be granted access will depend on your work experience, skills proficiency and prior engagement on the platform. If/when approved, an ‘Add your perspective’ button will appear on the article.
?? People asked?filter
A ‘People asked’ filter has been added to search results?and displays relevant Collaborative articles based on the search term, with summaries, top contribution and a link to the article.
?? Events created this week notification
When you click a notification alerting you to events held this week by your network, you’ll be delivered a scrollable and clickable list of all current events created in the last seven days by members you follow. You can test if you have this feature yet at:?https://lnkd.in/gpNrYhtz
?? Invite insights
Premium members who receive email notifications of connection invites will see either of 2 messages about the potential impact if they accept. The positive one says how many members will be added to your network and the second is a warning: "You should connect with the people you know and trust when building your LinkedIn network. If you know [First name], accepting this request will enable you to see each other's updates and send free messages."
?? Job interests
This?allows employees whose company use the LinkedIn Talent Management feature to alert their HR team that they’re interested in particular jobs available at the company.
?? General limits for LinkedIn groups?
Improvements to groups will make them more relevant and manageable with set limits for membership, content and other activities. View this at https://www.dhirubhai.net/help/linkedin/answer/a544801

?? Collaborative articles hub
It can be quite tricky to find the AI-created collaborative articles LinkedIn allows members to contribute to. To counter this, LinkedIn has given us a single-page resources hub so we can see the top trending articles plus a menu of topics. You can find this hub at https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/topics/home (If you are seeing a Top Voice designation in a profile intro, it tells you that person has contributed multiple times to these – highly specific – collaborative articles.)

1 年It's quite scary that AI is becoming part of our profiles, our posts and everything in between. Fostering genuine relationships here on LinkedIn should be a main priority for us all in this AI heavy world.
