LinkedIn apps seem to change as much as the desktop version, which is quite a lot! This is my third annual article about the LinkedIn apps. Maybe it’s because I love to use them and work on keeping myself up to date. I am now in the habit of writing an article and creating a brief SlideShare presentation every year about LinkedIn apps.
As of Q1, 2016 report, 58% of LinkedIn users access the site via mobile. About a third of the 45 M daily profile views are on mobile too. Wow! So let’s dig into the apps circa 2017.
Changes:
The most significant changes to apps over the last year or so include:
1.) The introduction of the LinkedIn Students app. which coincided with LinkedIn’s removal of a desktop student jobs portal in early 2016.
2.) The introduction of the LinkedIn Learning app.
3.) The Retirement of the Newsle app. That specific functionality of integrating news into your LinkedIn connections started with a feature called “Connections in the News.” Now we see news in the “Notifications” tab.
Top LinkedIn Mobile Apps for 2017:
This new list has incorporated the changes listed above, and I have rearranged it slightly for 2017:
1.) LinkedIn. This is their flagship app and has a direct link to the other apps which is very handy. Like the newly introduced user interface, the primary tabs are Home, My Network, Messaging, Notifications, and Jobs. Find your profile link at the photo next to the search bar on the top. You can edit your profile, but I much prefer doing profile edits on a desktop. Access your settings from the gear icon.
Two cool new features to be looking for include: photo editing and filters; and a trending news feed from the home tab.
Here's what the photo filters look like ---------->>>>>>
2.) LinkedIn Jobs. This app has a clean interface and is very intuitive. Search for jobs and then create a job alert. Check “Discover” to find jobs suggested just for you. Apply for a job using your LinkedIn profile with “Easy Apply.” You can quickly see the jobs you have "viewed," "saved" and "applied" under the Track tab. Find positions you may be interested in under “Notifications.”
3.) Pulse. Find great customized content on the Pulse app. Super place for news and blog junkies! You decide what’s interesting and change your feed accordingly.
4.) LinkedIn Students. This app is tailor-made for college students and new graduates. Users receive customized career suggestions, companies to consider, and alums to network with! Tap on the star icon to save to “your stuff.”

5.) LinkedIn Groups. You can easily find and review the conversations and new jobs tab within each of your groups. The tabs include highlights, groups, notifications, and discovery. I find that the Groups app is more convenient than navigating them on the desktop.
6.) Elevate. This app is designed for LinkedIn’s corporate clients. The app makes it easier for employees to share company generated content to the employee’s social networks. It has a hefty price tag but offers great ease for large enterprise teams. Check it out for your company if you are serious about leveraging the power of your employee network.
7.) Lookup. Easily find your co-workers. LinkedIn added a team feature recently, so you can organize your coworkers accordingly. Since I am only part of a five-person shop, I don’t spend much time using this app., but larger companies will benefit.
8.) Recruiter. Active on-the-go recruiters need to download this app if they are Recruiter license holders. Don’t miss any candidate because you are out of the office!
9.) Sales Navigator. This app is available for Sales Navigator users. Most field reps need this kind of flexibility and take their Navigator on the road. The app will send the user recommended “leads” ( individual prospects) and “accounts”( target companies).
10.) LinkedIn Learning and Lynda. The course content is the same for these two apps. However, LinkedIn Learning is integrated into the LinkedIn platform and connected to your profile/ account. Since LinkedIn knows about you, they can make customized course suggestions. You can also quickly add your courses to your profile.
11.) SlideShare. I am a huge fan of SlideShare so I love the app. too. Go to the Explore Tab and check out the categories.
Bonus Tip: Organize Your LinkedIn Apps ---->>>>
Here’s how I organize the LinkedIn apps on my phone’s folder. ----->>>
(This is page 1 of the folder. On page 2, I keep the Students, Lynda, and Elevate app.)
Let me know if you like this app folder?
Do you love using LinkedIn apps? Did I miss anything? Which one of these apps is your favorite? Why? Let me know in the comments section below. Thanks for reading.
