List Methodology

LinkedIn Economic Graph researchers examined millions of jobs started by LinkedIn members from January 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024 to calculate a growth rate for each job title. To be ranked, a job title needed to see positive growth across our membership base and sufficient job postings in the past year, as well as have grown to a meaningful size by 2024. Identical job titles across different seniority levels were grouped and ranked together. Internships, volunteer positions, interim roles and student roles were excluded, and jobs where hiring was dominated by a small handful of companies in each country were also excluded.?

Job Insights?

Additional data points for each of the job titles are based on LinkedIn profiles of members holding the title and/or open jobs for that title in the country.

Flexible work availability is based on jobs posted from November 2023 to November 2024 flagged as “remote” or “hybrid” by the poster or containing similar keywords. Most common skills were derived from the top skills most unique to each title among members who have ever held that title on LinkedIn. Median years of experience was calculated using the median years of work experience held prior to starting in the featured title for members hired within the methodology time frame. Most common industries are based on the industry of the companies that hired the highest number of members for each job from January 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024. Gender breakdown was calculated by measuring the number of members by identified gender currently in each job (provided there was meaningful gender data) as a percentage of the total members with known gender per job. Top locations hiring were categorized as the regions that employed the largest percentage of each job title from January 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024. Most common transitions were identified by the share of transitions from another occupation into the featured job in the past 3 years.

What I love about this list is the data and the top roles people are transitioning from—it highlights the potential for career pivots. I’m also noticing new roles created by AI, like artificial intelligence engineers. AI is here to stay, and the more we resist it, the harder it will be to keep up. What’s alarming, though, is the gender gap in AI roles: only 22% female and 78% male, according to this data. We need to close this gap, starting from early education. No more home science bias just for girls—let’s push for STEM and hands-on AI knowledge in schools as part of the solution.

With political division and tensions rising, I believe workplaces may need more employee training and practice in the art of dialogue so that workplace discussions, such as in meetings and during feedback conversations, are productive, efficient, and support growth and team cohesion. It could also support teh rediscovery of statesmanship and respectful debate in parliamentary discussions. Curious about others' thoughts on this.

I'm struck by how gendered the jobs were. Not sure if acknowledging more than 2 genders would make a difference but very few of these jobs are 50-50 between 2 genders. Most were overwhelming male or female dominated. Is that illuminating our present or indicating our future?
