List Methodology

LinkedIn Economic Graph researchers examined millions of jobs started by LinkedIn members from 1 January 2022 to 31 July 2024 to calculate a growth rate for each job title. To be ranked, a job title needed to see positive growth across our membership base and sufficient job postings in the past year, as well as have grown to a meaningful size by 2024. Identical job titles across different seniority levels were grouped and ranked together. Internships, volunteer positions, interim roles and student roles were excluded, and jobs where hiring was dominated by a small handful of companies in each city were also excluded.?

Job Insights?

Additional data points for each of the job titles are based on LinkedIn profiles of members holding the title and/or open jobs for that title in the city.

Remote and hybrid job availability is based on jobs posted from November 2023 to November 2024 flagged as “remote” or “hybrid” by the poster or containing similar keywords. Where availability was 0%, this note has been omitted. Most common skills were derived from the top skills most unique to each title among members who have ever held that title on LinkedIn. Most common industries are based on the industry of the companies that hired the highest number of members for each job from 1 January 2024 to 31 October 2024. Gender breakdown was calculated by measuring the number of members by identified gender currently in each job as a percentage of the total members with known gender per job.

Interesting results here, although I miss some Tech Support, Software Engineering, and Data Analysts on this list. These roles are always in high demand in the Liverpool and Merseyside area, not only for tech companies but for all industries and levels of experience.

Every year, I put together a report using insights from our network of hiring managers. While this covers the whole UK, it mostly shines a light on the North West, making it very relevant for this conversation. In the Top 5 Hiring areas for 2025 are Sales & Business Development, Finance, and Operations, which lines up with LinkedIn's data for Liverpool. With the economy tightening and costs going up, companies are focusing on roles that boost profits, save money, or improve efficiency. Luckily for Liverpool, its lower living costs compared to places like London have drawn in a lot of private investment, which means folks in Merseyside don’t have to look to neighbouring cities like Manchester to move up in their careers.

Very surprised to see that Store Management features in the list. Recent papers from the House of Commons Library, that draw on info from the British Retail Consortium, talk of Retail being in "perma-crisis". Not a criticism of retail (my wife has worked in it for 40 years), but just a surprise.
