List Methodology

LinkedIn Economic Graph researchers examined millions of jobs started by LinkedIn members from 1 January 2022 to 31 July 2024 to calculate a growth rate for each job title. To be ranked, a job title needed to see positive growth across our membership base and sufficient job postings in the past year, as well as have grown to a meaningful size by 2024. Identical job titles across different seniority levels were grouped and ranked together. Internships, volunteer positions, interim roles and student roles were excluded, and jobs where hiring was dominated by a small handful of companies in each city were also excluded.?

Job Insights?

Additional data points for each of the job titles are based on LinkedIn profiles of members holding the title and/or open jobs for that title in the city.

Remote and hybrid job availability is based on jobs posted from November 2023 to November 2024 flagged as “remote” or “hybrid” by the poster or containing similar keywords. Where availability was 0%, this note has been omitted. Most common skills were derived from the top skills most unique to each title among members who have ever held that title on LinkedIn. Most common industries are based on the industry of the companies that hired the highest number of members for each job from 1 January 2024 to 31 October 2024. Gender breakdown was calculated by measuring the number of members by identified gender currently in each job (provided there was meaningful gender data) as a percentage of the total members with known gender per job.

I wonder how this is calculated. Is it data driven or just some AI generated nonsense that is driving clicks? It's difficult to say. If it is based on LI data then it is interesting.

Michael, the reason for your observation is that in the 1970/80's when a lot of the industries closed down, leeds/yorkshire became the call centre, support services capital of the UK.. back office BPO processing etc.. eg credit reference and fulfilment, along with a lot of centralised distribution warehousing because of Leeds location on M1, A1 and M62 Road network..

This is an interesting list. I am struck by how many of the job titles seem to be related to business support functions like finance and facilities. These roles are undoubtedly needed, but it would be great if Leeds was seeing more demand for front line revenue generating roles.

This is interesting, yet I'm surprised not to see more software engineering and digital marketing roles in the city. Leeds' employers must rethink their strategies to compete with Manchester, a growing tech hub, and attract the candidates who have relocated to the North from London.
