LinkedIn Job Titles - Open to work

Part 5 of the LinkedIn Recruiter Simplified series.

Searching on LinkedIn has become more critical after the reveal I showed this week on how LinkedIn is cutting down the Public Profile.

They prevent sourcers and recruiters from searching via X-ray.

Example site:linkedin.com/in PHP developer Sydney

For now, it will still give results. This will take some time and then be eliminated. Read the full investigation here.

We have now to switch back to LinkedIn Recruiter Simplified. Last time, I explained and showed that the Boolean will get the most results.

A lot of support and reactions about the Boolean.

This a function for LinkedIn Recruiter only

Now and only in this case will we switch to LinkedIn titles. There is a hidden feature. In my experience in all the training have given to all the recruitment teams who use LinkedIn Recruiter, none of them knew this feature.

We are going to search for a PHP developer in Sydney.

I picked job titles like PHP developer, PHP programmer, etc.

And then choose Include: Open to work in the Job titles.

You now search in the Open to Work section, which candidates filled out while turning on their Open to Work toggle. This is mandatory for candidates.

Why is this so important?

You can search for candidates who have indicated they are "open to work" as a PHP developer.

PS: if exclude PHP as a keyword. NOT PHP. You can search for other candidates open to working as a PHP developer, but don't mention that they have PHP on their profile, like this candidate E.U.I.B.

Other use case (and there are many more)

You want to find recruiters or talent acquisition specialists who have never worked as a recruiter or talent acquisition specialist. (as an example)

Select as many LinkedIn Job titles. Do not use Boolean here.

Select Open to Work, and then in keywords, you exclude these partial Job titles.

Yes, the "Open to work" filter is a pretty cool idea. Nevertheless, the filter is poorly implemented. While the "normal" job titles can be searched in Boolean terms, you need to pick a job title from the suggestions. There is no possibility to search for your own keyword, if it's not selectable. Furthermore, the filter only looks for the exact statement, thus, if you look for a "PHP Developer" with the open-to-work filter, it won't show you candidates who want to work as "Senior PHP Developer".

Very cool, Marcel van der Meer. Put me down in the group of LinkedIn Recruiter users who did not know this feature. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the usefulness of the "Other Use Case" though. Perhaps just a situation I haven't encountered yet.
