LinkedIn Audio Rooms

If you're a fan of Clubhouse, you're going to love these! They are currently rolling out in beta with US test users.

I'm not going to pretend to be the expert as I've not got the feature yet but as a highly sensitive person and introvert to boot I'll be excited to give these a go!

No more worrying about bad hair days or what you look like on camera.

What I've gleaned so far:

?? LinkedIn Audios are 'events' and therefore can be found by using the search bar at the top left of your LinkedIn home feed and using the 'event' filter. You can also spot them on your home feed by following people who host them.

?? Similar to other events you can be invited to join. This invitation will come through to your Network Tab.

?? If you find an audio event which peaks your curiosity click 'ATTEND'. This will then show up in the event area of your LinkedIn account - scroll down your home feed and you'll see the 'events' shortcut on the left hand side of the feed.

?? Joining an audio room is similar to joining a LinkedIn Live event. You can join from desktop, mobile, iPhone and Android and need to simply click 'JOIN'. When you want to leave simply click 'leave event'.

?? Creating an audio event is easy. You simply need to go to the event tab. Create a new event with the + sign and select audio from the dropdown. Similar to other events you will need to fill out information such as the event description and include an image.

?? The current speaker has a green ring around their profile photo indicating that they are on the mic - similar to the green ring in messenger to indicate that you are on the app.

?? There are reaction buttons so that the audience can participate. The audience are in 'listening mode' and you need to click the 'Raise' button to ask to speak on stage.

?? There is a networking tab in each event giving you a personalised breakdown of the participants in 4 key areas 1) First level connections 2) University connections 3) Geography 4) Industry. You can also explore the analytics of your audio event as host.

?? Some useful hashtags to follow (to keep in the loop) are #linkedinaudio ?#linkedinaudioevent . If you do a search for 'posts' in the last week you will see many great audio events springing up and can join one as a guest to try the feature out. As I mentioned before you will be automatically on mute on joining and can leave the meeting easily so you don't need to panic about having to speak!

From what I can gauge it is really similar to Clubhouse. I tried CH when it first came out and my personal experience was that there was a lot of 'peacocking' from a multitude of 'experts' congratulating each other. I decided to leave after a month or so as all the 6/7/8 figure HYPE / BS was becoming a bit tiresome. I guess like anything in life it's a question of finding the right people and room that resonates with you. Quality over quantity!

I prefer to walk the talk and spend my time on LinkedIn so it's great to see this finally being rolled out here. I only hope that the value of the content is kept elevated. ????

I personally can't wait until it is rolled out to groups as I think it will be the game changer!

LinkedIn video events are due to roll out in the Spring - I better get my hair done for those. ?? That being said my strong belief is that we each need to use LinkedIn holistically in a way that suits our individual personality, energy, goals and schedule. Just because all the 'features' exist, doesn't mean we have to use them all as there is no one size fits all on here.

Have you joined an audio room yet?

Will you be setting up your own audio events to raise your visibility?

I would love to hear about your experience in the comments ??

?? Remember leaving a comment is like leaving a virtual business card - people get to see your headshot and headline so it's always a great way to get visibility. Win / win!

Very interesting and enjoyable read Jennifer Corcoran . I’m very interested to try the video events on here as video is one of my favourite ways to connect and communicate. I tried Clubhouse for quite a few months when it first came out. I enjoyed it and the format. Although I didn’t utilise it fully as I wanted to concentrate on other platforms at the time. I’ll most likely give LinkedIn Audio a try as I’m on here anyway. Thanks for sharing and putting all of this together. Very helpful and informative. P.S: Another thing we have in common- I’m from Dublin too! I’m also an expat. Where are you from?

I never jumped on the Clubhouse train, being hard of hearing audio only doesn't appeal to me when there could be a lot of chat going on at once. I'm interested to see if it takes off though ??

Thanks for this information Jennifer Corcoran! I appreciate the reminder towards the end that we don't need to use ALL the features, just the ones that suit us and our personalities. As you mentioned, the audio events have caught my attention as an introverted business owner! Excited to learn more and try this new feature. ??

Great insight! Thank you ????. I was a CH user. Wasn’t able to glean the experts from the BS-berts??So, I checkin maybe 1x/month fit the “anything new of interest” scan. I’m guess LI Audio could be that way too. I’ll watch my network, scan for new interests & try to avoid ?? ????. (I’m not seeing myself as a producer of video.)
