This week, I posted a video on LinkedIn in response to the multitude of people reaching out to me and asking, "Is LinkedIn dying?" The short answer is, "Heck NO, just the opposite!" But, it has shifted in a way most people haven't come to understand... yet. To give you an analogy, LinkedIn has evolved into a sophisticated online version of the Yellow Pages. However, with 660M users (and counting!), it's ability to work effectively as a networking tool has actually diminished. To understand this, you can watch this first video:
LinkedIn is no longer a social network - it's a social marketplace. (And, that's a GOOD thing!)
Once you understand how LinkedIn has changed, you can start to see how the company is paving the way for social media 2.0. The future of networking isn't on sites like LinkedIn, but rather, in something called "micronets." These are online social networking platforms specifically designed to make networking with like-minded peers more efficient and effective. Better still, it will make the time and energy you spend on social media more rewarding! In the video at the bottom of this page, I breakdown what a micronet is and why they will explode in the next 2 years.
P.S. - If you want to try a micronet for yourself to understand how powerful they are, Work It Daily has a free trial to their micronet so you can see for yourself how they work. You can access that by clicking here: WORK IT DAILY's micronet.
