Amidst a global surge in layoffs, finding a job interview has become more challenging than ever. While there are many reasons for this struggle, LinkedIn suggests one key issue: many candidates apply for jobs they’re not qualified for.
To address this, LinkedIn has introduced a new feature called “Job Match” that uses generative AI to help users better understand their qualifications relative to job postings.
How It WorksUnlike traditional keyword-based algorithms, “Job Match” delves deeper into a candidate’s experience, comparing it against job descriptions. This tool aims to reduce the number of unqualified applications, ensuring that candidates apply for roles better aligned with their skills.

According to Rohan Rajiv, LinkedIn’s product manager, this tool is designed to benefit recruiters as well, helping them identify suitable candidates more efficiently from the vast pool of applications.
AI for Small BusinessesIn addition to “Job Match,” LinkedIn is rolling out an AI-powered recruitment agent for small businesses, also free of charge. This agent leverages LinkedIn’s in-house AI technology to streamline hiring processes. Over time, LinkedIn plans to expand these tools to include external data sources, further enhancing their functionality.
The Challenges AheadWhile the technology promises to refine job matching, it may inadvertently increase competition for eligible candidates as more qualified individuals apply for the same positions. However, Rajiv remains optimistic, noting that early tests suggest this tool can address significant challenges in recruitment.
