?? Hey there! It's been a minute.
Since my last newsletter, my social media and marketing consulting business has taken off and I have been building that out.
I will be sharing some of what I have been learning from that as well as tips to help build your business and brand on social media and opening up some availability for new clients.
I'll still be including helpful career and job search information and some of the fun things I do on the side, including entertainment interviews and videos from my time at various events like San Diego Comic Con and some cool press junkets.
You'll be getting my spin on various articles I find useful or content from my website to help your small business succeed!
So, let's get to it!
Making LinkedIn Work for You Even When You're Not On It
Despite the popularity and power of LinkedIn, many people are still not using it to its full potential. There are some easy things you can do to make your profile work for you even when you're not on the platform — and work even better when you are.
Probably the biggest change you can make to optimize your profile is in the headline. Don't be that person that just has their current title and company. You can utilize that space to share a range of things, including keywords, what you do, who you do it for, and what your value proposition is.
Hop into my article to make some changes to your LinkedIn profile that will make a big difference in a short amount of time — and if you want to hop on a 30 minute Zoom to get help doing this, including a review of your profile, contact me HERE.
Instagram Adds More Links to Profiles
Instagram now lets users add up to five links in their profile. This is a change a long time coming and one that is aimed directly at the platforms competitors in the "link in bio" industry. These are companies that let you use the one link (previously) allowed in your Instagram bio to send people to a third party website where you can have multiple links at a time.
For a lot of casual users, five links will be enough to keep them on the platform and away from companies like Linktree, LinkInBio, and others.
For power users, these third party companies will remain a solid option when you have a need for more than five links in a single Instagram account.
While Mark Zuckerberg says it's one of the most requested features for Instagram, I still gotta go with making clickable links in posts a thing. This would eliminate the need to have multiple links in your bio. It's a good step in the right direction. Now let's see how this goes for them.

Verification on LinkedIn
At a time when Twitter has pretty much destroyed the meaning of being verified, LinkedIn is now offering free verification on profiles. You can verify that you work at a certain company and you can also verify that you are who you say you are. The verification doesn't really offer much perks beyond having a verified badge, but does go a long ways towards credibility on the platform. It will remain to be seen how much this process is adopted and how easy it is to get verified.
Video Corner - Jeff Mednikov at SDCC 2019
When I attended San Diego Comic-Con back in 2019, I had the chance to interview the voice cast and crew for the then newly-released animated DC film Teen Titans GO! Vs. Teen Titans. In this video, I chatted with director Jeff Mednikov (who you might recognize from the current global smash hit The Super Mario Brother Movie).
Check out the discussion below and then hop into the playlist to see my interviews with famous voice actors like Tara Strong, Scott Menville, Greg Cipes, Grey Griffin, and Khary Payton, who all voice various characters in the movie.
Entertainment Interview: Composer Philip White on 'The Winchesters'
I've recently been hitting the gym up and using the elliptical for 30-40 minutes and found something that keeps me distracted while I sweat and get in shape —watching old episodes of Supernatural. It makes the time go by so fast!
I admit, I tried to get into the series once before and just couldn't do it. This time around I'm already 14 episodes into the first season and have, what, another 50 seasons to go??
Now the CW has created a show that tells the origin story of John and Mary Winchester, the parents of Sam and Dean in Supernatural. I had the chance to chat with the composer for The Winchesters (who also happens to be the composer for the original show) and asked him all about it.
