LinkedIn Groups is Making a Comeback

Community groups have been a major success over the last decade with platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook first offering this as a feature to their users.
The platform to see the most success with groups was Facebook (even though they launched theirs after LinkedIn).
Maybe it was because at the time, compared to LinkedIn, social media users saw Facebook as a place for fun and interactive content compared to LinkedIn which was strictly a place to network.
You would think that professionals would leverage these groups more to position themselves as thought leaders in the industry but at the time, social media was about fun and LinkedIn wasn't considered "fun".
Now, LinkedIn is seeing a bit of a comeback with their groups. As more brands and creators are coming to the platform from X, LinkedIn has seen a lot more success in their groups than before.
Their latest win was making their groups public. The platform has recently shared how making group posts more public increased engagement and interest in joining these groups.
Instead of having to join a group to see the action happening on the inside, group posts will be made available to see whether you are a member or not and if you like what you see, you can choose to join the group or scroll on past.
“For posts created inside a public group, we set the distribution to MAIN_FEED to allow for distribution on the home feed to group members, first-degree connections of the author, and first-degree connections of any members who react/comment/repost on the post. This helps increase distribution of public group posts.”
