People are obsessed with getting more connections, more followers, more likes but what about going deeper?
I used to just care about numbers and I would say that marketing is a numbers game.
I was not wrong. Marketing is indeed a numbers game.
The question is: What are the most important numbers to measure?
Should you just measure how many connections you have? I have over 12,000 connections to date.
Some people measure how many likes they get on their posts. I have gotten thousands of likes on my posts. It did not change my business.
What actually made an impact for me was how many deep relationships and connections I have with REAL people in my network.
That is why I created the LinkedIn Going Deeper Challenge.
For 10 days, I challenge you to go deeper with one person each day by spending ten minutes reviewing their profile. Ten minutes goes by VERY FAST!
Want to see me actually going deeper on LinkedIn, this is me spending 10 minutes on the profile for Estie Rand - https://www.dhirubhai.net/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6430397518059696128/
Once you take this challenge, you will realize very quickly that you have not been spending time reviewing your connections profiles and properly connecting with them.
Here are the steps to take the challenge.
- Make a list of 10 people whom you want to get to know better on LinkedIn. Save that in a document or on a spreadsheet so you do not have to think about it when you are executing.
- Put time in your calendar each day so you can dedicate 10 minutes a day for 10 days to review these profiles.
- Open up your connections page on your phone or on your computer and take a screenshot of their profile to share later.
- Review the photo, the background photo, the headline, the summary and all the attachments they have in the summary. This should take you at least 3 minutes.
- Next look at their work history and really take in their experience, see what skills they have listed on their profiles and identify who has endorsed them for those skills. If you know this person already, give them a quick endorsement.
- Read their LinkedIn recommendations and see who gave it to them. This is one of the most important parts of going deeper because you get to see how they are viewed by other people and you really start understanding who this person is.
- Look at what groups they are part of, who their influencers are and review your mutual connections that you have with them.
- Review their recent articles, posts and activities to see what they are up to. Take it all in for a moment because there is a lot of information here.
- Review their contact information and click on the links they provide there to check out their website, I like reading their about us on their website to get another idea about what they do and how they do it.
- If you still have time, take a moment to do a Google search for this persons name, watch the videos that come up, listen to the podcasts and see what exists for their name. If they have a popular name include their company name in the Google search as well.
Once you are done doing the review, write up a post on LinkedIn with your key takeaways. Include what you learned from going deeper and make sure to mention their name in the post so they get notified.
I personally like sharing gratitude if they are a great member of the active LinkedIn community.
Include the tag #linkedingoingdeeper so that people can see what is going on and hold you accountable to doing it for 10 minutes a day.
Make sure that you have an image of the persons profile in your post when you publish.
Finally as bonus: nominate 1 to 3 people to take the challenge as well. This will get more people to go deep on LinkedIn and build a deep network of people who are serious about networking in the most effective way.
Are you up for taking the LinkedIn Going Deeper challenge? Let me know in the comments below.
My goal is to get 100 people to take the challenge and effect 1000 people in a more positive way.

6 年Thank You!? You have just put into words and action something that's been on my mind for a few weeks.?? I've been so busy growing my connections, I haven't even had the time to read and answer all the messages I've received from new connections.?? I keep seeing these amazing women and thinking I would love to work or collaborate with her or? feature her on my site... I'll get back to her soon... once I'm at 7000 connections... someday, sometime may never come it... none of it matters if you don't do it now... NOW is the time to connect on a deeper level.? You are SPOT ON. Thanks for issuing this Challenge.

6 年Beautiful. I often do that check profile.it definately adds value to knowing the person. It does not have to be only a connection.it can be the follow lead. True many connections but how many do we actually know much about? Thank you for this article. Sharing.
