Mobile offers LinkedIn at your fingertips and by most accounts a majority of users access the platform via the app.
Most stats show the usage rate of the mobile app in the 50-60% range, but what’s very interesting is that in my research I found a number of articles/blogs that stated that 80% of engagement comes from mobile users.? That’s only partly true.
This statistic comes from LinkedIn and it should read that 80% of SPONSORED content comes from mobile.? So if you use LinkedIn ads, this is pertinent, but don’t be fooled into thinking this applies to ALL of your content.
I admit that I’m a desktop user.? As a boomer, I’m more comfortable with a larger screen and full keyboard. ? But, there are times I need to use the mobile app and admittedly, there are features that you can only use on the mobile app and others that work better.
In this article I’ll run down just a few benefits of engaging with your network via the mobile app that might help you in building a quality network.
Here are just a few features I want to cover in this article:
NAME PRONUNCIATION
?This feature can only be added to your LinkedIn profile on the Mobile App (watch video below for tutorial!).
You have 10 seconds to say your name and you can even add in a short tip or tagline.
Make sure you annunciate your name in order that the person listening hears and understands how to say your name the proper way.? This is a very convenient feature if you have a name that is commonly mispronounced, but is also a great way to connect with a person verbally before you’ve met them.? Be upbeat and speak slowly and deliberately!
VIDEO MESSAGING
Have you ever felt like you were being ignored or ghosted by a connection?? We all have.? Here’s a word of advice before I talk about this feature- it’s probably not you.? People are busy and have limited time and attention.? Often when they aren’t responding it’s not because of you, unless you’re being aggressive, anit-social or just plain rude- then it’s DEFINITELY you and you need to STOP!
But seriously, most of the time people see a message and think ‘I’ll reply later’ and then forget.? One great feature that you can utilize on the LinkedIn mobile app will help grab their attention- video messaging!??
This feature allows you to send your connections, as well as those who have messaged you and you haven’t connected with, a video message.? Watch the video below to see how to use this feature.
There are several reasons I really like this feature-?
RINGING SOMEONE'S BELL- Content Notification
The bell feature came out last year- if you’re following or connected to someone you can click the bell icon on their profile to be notified when they post content.? This feature is available on both Desktop and Mobile, but offers you more options on the Mobile app.
Desktop:
The bell will be white when you first look at the person’s profile (you’re not being notified about their posts).
When you click on the bell it will turn dark gray, meaning that you will be notified of their posts.? It’s unclear if you’re notified of ALL of their posts or just their top posts (as determined by LinkedIn with no criteria provided as to what constitutes a top post).??
Mobile:
Just like desktop the bell will be white when first look at their profile.
But, on Mobile, when you click the bell you’re presented with options (See the video below for more).
You can then be notified of all posts, top posts or no posts.?
SENDING INVITES ON MOBILE
I always recommend sending a personalized connection request when building your network.
On the desktop version of LinkedIn it’s easy- once you click the connect button from the person’s profile, LinkedIn actually prompts you to send a note.
But not on the Mobile App.??
If you click the connect button anywhere on LinkedIn including the person’s profile, your connection request is sent with no chance to send a personal note.
There’s one additional step you need to take to send a personalized note.?
Watch the video below to learn how!
BONUS! YOUR LINKEDIN QR CODE
Did you know that your LinkedIn profile has its very own QR Code that you can share to more easily connect with people at large events like trade shows and networking events! You can see mine below and watch the video under that to see how to access yours!
While there are advantages and disadvantages to using both the LinkedIn desktop and LinkedIn Mobile App versions, there are definitely some great features you'll want to make sure you're using on the Mobile app!
Drop a comment below and let me know which of these features you're using, know of and what other LinkedIn features you may want to see more information on for future articles!

1 年Good catch to see the stats from LinkedIn in a differentiated way and adding the bonus tips for mobile here, Bill. I operate 60-70% on the mobile app, even when sitting at my desktop. It is just more handy as a fast typer. For example much more easy to download a carousel than on desktop (and it captures its file name, but not in the desktop version). And commuting by public transport, I use the mobile app everywhere.
