The LinkedIn Game: Are You a Spectator, Player, or Fan?

The LinkedIn Game: Are You a Spectator, Player, or Fan?

Today, let's explore the roles we play on #LinkedIn, drawing parallels to a football match. Do we have football fans here? ???

Just like in football, LinkedIn has players, spectators, and fans. Each role holds significance, but if you've been wanting to be a player but is not, it's important to reflect on what hinders you from embracing the player's arena.

One of the first football matches as my then boyfriend initiated me to the world of football- RHB Singapore Cup FInal 2005 at the Old Grand Dame

?? Players:

The Content Creators and Active Engagers on LinkedIn are like the star players on a football team. They are the ones who create valuable content, initiate conversations, and actively engage with others. They share their expertise, insights, and experiences, which not only help others but also establish their #personalbrand. Players actively contribute to the LinkedIn community and leave a lasting #impact.

?? Spectators: The Lurkers in the Stands

Just as there are spectators at a football match who observe and cheer from the stands, LinkedIn has its fair share of spectators. Spectators are the lurkers who consume the content, silently benefiting from the knowledge shared by the players. They gain valuable insights, learn from others' experiences, and stay updated with industry trends. While spectators may not actively participate, their presence is essential for a thriving LinkedIn community. (Question: What keeps you staying on as a spectator?)

?? Fans: The Supporters and Engagers

In both football stadiums and on LinkedIn, fans are enthusiastic supporters who engage with players' content. They leave comments, share posts, and amplify valuable insights to their networks, expanding the reach and impact of the content to a wider audience.

Just like football players on the pitch, LinkedIn players also face risks when they step into the arena. While they receive cheers and glory for their valuable contributions, they are also exposed to criticism and the possibility of making mistakes. Yet, despite these risks, they persist.

Here's why:

?? They embrace feedback and growth: they accept that growth comes from feedback (positive or negative) that will allow them to refine their ideas and perspectives. They re-frame the boo's as opportunities to learn, adapt, and improve.

?? Standing Firm in Their Convictions: Players on LinkedIn stay true to their values and beliefs, even in the face of opposition. They are willing to take calculated risks, knowing that their authentic contributions have the potential to inspire and create change.

?? Building Resilience: LinkedIn players build resilience by overcoming challenges and setbacks. They recognise that, similar to football players on the pitch, obstacles are inevitable in their journey. They understand that success takes time and setbacks are a normal part of the process. Criticism and obstacles serve as motivation to bounce back stronger and continue making meaningful contributions.

?? Building a Supportive Network: Linkedin players establish a supportive network akin to football teammates. They connect with like-minded individuals who uplift and encourage them. By surrounding themselves with people who appreciate and value their contributions, they create a support system that helps them navigate challenges and setbacks. This network serves as a source of motivation and inspiration, empowering players to overcome difficult times.

?? The Rewards of Persistence: Players understand the rewards that come with persistence. They strive for personal and professional growth, establish themselves as thought leaders, expand their networks, and unlock new opportunities. By pushing past their comfort zones, they achieve remarkable success and leave a lasting impact in their fields.

?? Seeking Growth, Not Perfection: LinkedIn players prioritise growth over perfection. They understand that making mistakes is an inevitable part of the learning process. Rather than being paralyzed by the fear of failure or judgment, they embrace imperfections and view them as stepping stones towards improvement. They persistently iterate, refine, and adapt their content and engagement strategies to provide even more value to their audience.

?? So, let's take inspiration from the resilience and determination of football players on the pitch. Embrace the cheers and the boo's, learn from both successes and failures, and persistently contribute your unique value to the LinkedIn community.

Together, let's create a supportive and engaging environment where growth thrives.

Inspiring post! I haven't seen a full football match before, but I did read a story about hockey from one of my favorite authors, Fredrik Backman. :) He published a series called Beartown. The way the story unfolds goes beyond just playing hockey. It showed the nuances of life, its gray areas, what it means to love, how sports can be the life of other people, the impact of a sacrifice, an unspoken word, and having the courage to be yourself. This made me connect deeply with your post, Wini! Albeit through a different sport, the concept of player, spectator, and fans made so much sense! In the end, it's about making a decision that steers us away from feeling regretful. Regret, after all, is a sound yardstick to whether we've lived a fulfilled life or not. <3

Winifred Ling ???? (M.Couns, GDAPP, CMEMIP-1) , I always found it interesting they many people are spectators. I heard this phrase mentioned before when he was watching soccer. "50,000 people badly in need of exercise watching 22 people badly in need of rest." Why not be the player who makes the world shake and move and thrive along the way!

I enjoy a good football match and this is a perfect analogy, Winifred! Whilst I prefer to play the game as a forward, I'm embracing the role of a coach, who enables more players to level up the LinkedIn game for everyone's benefit. It's a good thing I do not "retire" from the sport of LinkedIn because of old age. ??

The quality of the match depends on the players in the fan. The success of the match depends on the fans in the stand. One without the other won't work
