LinkedIn for Emerging Fund Managers

LinkedIn for Emerging Fund Managers

The fact you're reading this here means I've got a decent chance at landing this week's story!

100% of the emerging fund managers we chat to find capital raising challenging.

Almost all are leaving serious capital on the table due to their absence from the single most powerful global capital raising platform.

LinkedIn.

By the way, if you're new here, a warm welcome. Fundicorn is designed for emerging fund managers and delivers a weekly package of actionable hacks, tips & hints gathered from over 30 years of bruises, scars, wins and losses in the capital raising industry. Please browse around the chapters already published & get to know us a little bit.

Oh, and did you subscribe yet? It's free & seeing you join our tribe gives me such a buzz.

Let's dispel a myth that serious allocators of capital don't show up on here.

Even the most discrete family office will have it's senior decision makers with visible profiles even if the company itself is in stealth mode.

Every single source of capital you need for your fund is sitting right here, scrolling like you are. Every ticket we've seen written in the last decade came from a decision maker with a LinkedIn profile.

Every. Single. One.

Now we've got that out of the way, let's dive into 8 things you can do in 8 days as a distraction from all that delicious holiday fare and 'interesting' discussions with your in-laws.

These actionable LinkedIn tips will transform your 2025

Premium Subscription

  • The best $80 per month you're going to spend on capital raising. Do it now.

Sales Navigator Videos

  • Once you're a premium subscriber, launch 'Sales Nav' on the top right hand corner of your desktop version of LinkedIn and start browsing around. It's not the most intuitive platform so watch the top 10 YouTube videos and you'll be an expert at finding new leads in no time.

Profile

  • The most important hack of all. On smartphones, your profile is nearly 50% of the screen when someone views you. Your banner should be clean and simple delivering your value proposition. A new welcoming headshot is essential. Make sure to verify your identity when prompted & then the holy grail...
  • Under your name describe what you do not your title, put yourself in the shoes of those searching, there's literally hundreds of millions of 'CEOs' and 'Founders' It tells the reader nothing at all. 'I manage funds investing in space tech private equity' will get you 10x traction compared to 'founder & CEO of global private equity manager'

Weekly Article

  • Launch a weekly article (just like the one you're reading) It provides another touch point for people to get to know you

Monthly Audio Live

  • Set a date and a topic, plug in your most concise speaker from the team, present a compelling idea for 5 minutes and then get the conversation flowing with your guests for 10 more minutes

Event Invitation

  • Create an online or live event in the left side vertical tool bar and post it, keep doing it every month

Post Your Jobs

  • Every single position you're hiring for, post it

Posting Consistently Every Week

  • 3 posts per week, 52 weeks per year in 3 categories will do the trick nicely
  • Your people & places
  • What you do & most importantly your why
  • CTA, constantly give people touch points - coffee meet-ups, dinners, drinks, internships, event attendances...
  • Try to avoid these posts which have been done so many millions of times already that engagement is low (your supper, you with Mike Tyson, you with Jamie Dimon, your conference badge, you in black tie with your latest award gong)

Here's hoping I've peaked your enthusiasm to do more, much more.

LinkedIn may look a bit clunky and the UX rather stuck in 2010 but my word, it works like a dream. Kill most of your other database and IR subscriptions and become part of the 1% of emerging fund managers who raise most of their new money here.

Adapt or wither on the vine.

Thanks for reading. Subscribes, likes, shares & comments are always welcome as they help the algo to get me to other people's feeds that I don't normally reach.

If you need help implementing any of these ideas, book a free discovery call with me here: Discovery Call with Simon

Tune in same place, same time next week for chapter 11.
