Linkedin: Don't Be Overlooked

Linkedin: Don't Be Overlooked

Does your linkedin profile showcase you? Or is it a place holder with a picture, a name and a company? I've invested time and money developing my profile and it seems it's always a work in progress.

Recently, I attended a virtual networking meeting on Zoom. Attendees were placed in a breakout room for two. The assignment was to interview each other and prepare to give a retirement speech on behalf of the person interviewed. Just as I finished interviewing, we had 26 seconds before we had to return to the main room. I was really disappointed because now my partner would not be able to interview me. I resigned myself to the fact that my partner would not be able to talk about me to the group.

During the speeches, he sent me a private message and said "I'm looking at your profile. I can get it from linkedin". Well, when it was his turn, he gave a Knockout Presentation about me. It sounded so natural and it was all on point. I was laughing because nobody knew our secret. It was in that moment that I discovered the power of my profile. Yes, a good profile can attract referrals. But a maximized linkedin page can leverage the power of networking. There could have been a lost opportunity if it were not for a complete linkedin profile. What do you want someone to say when they speak about you to others? A maximized profile allows you to control the narrative. Updating a linkedin page may be an investment in time but it will save you time in the long run with your business development. Don't be overlooked. You never know when someone may give a speech about you.
